They never came, run away door ki baat
Neither Kia nor Hyundai have a slight bit of % interest in ownership structure of Kia lucky and Hyundai Nishat xD
Here's the story and where Nishat & lucky have fucked up
When the current big 3 set up plants in Pakistan, it was expected that Pakistani market will replicate ASEAN markets in the long term, however, it didn't work out and it was unfeasible for these companies to keep competing in a small market like this. Hence, resulted an implicit collusion which honestly isn't even implicit. A segment to each policy was adopted, small car market was handed over to Suzuki whereas Honda & Toyota decided to split their customer bases into two segments, urban educated segment to Honda and the rural segment + urban trader type segment along with some company business to Toyota. Targeted marketing strategies were adopted to split the different customer bases hence these three Japanese automakers found a way to survive in a market where competition couldn't work, a strategy of dividing segments among each other. Due to infeasibility of competition in the small market, any new entrant introduced by local groups failed.
Then came the recent Nawaz Sharif era, the artificial control on inflation with fixed exchange rate and loan led growth rate made the automobile sales almost double over previous volumes, to make things optimistic further the auto policy came in. The growth rate has resulted in Lucky and Nishat betting on this market going towards "competition" instead of the traditional "divide the segments among each other" policy, and we can see this isn't working out. The balloon has popped and market is back to its reality, Hyundai and Kia are probably very happy right now that they didn't put a penny in here. The others that were actually putting in money were Renault & Datsun who've also pulled the plug, and our business groups lucky and Nishat have put in huge money in plants they probably are going to lose out on. They're now in a position where even the dividing segments thing ain't gonna work for em cos mass market segments are held by big 3, can only try for low volume segments like Sportage. They'll imo have an attempt at commercial vehicle market to survive other than these low volume segments. Have a look, Sportage is what Kia is advertising, they know themselves picanto isn't going to sell.
