Disagree that Sorento won't sell well. It will be popular as Fortuner doesn't offer value for money. Having said that, the big negative for Sorento is its shape, which is just ordinary. And this is the market where most people just buy SUVs mainly for the look and prestige factor. That's the reason Fortuner has been selling well despite substantial rise in prices, way higher than what they should have been.

The new Fortuner no doubt is one of the best looking SUVs out there. That's the only thing going for it. Otherwise even at a global level, watch any comparison video of Fortuner against any other SUV and everyone will rate Fortuner as last or next to last as it is highly uncomfortable both on and off road, and have safety issues as well. If that's the case with Fortuner assembled abroad, anyone can get an idea how much more inferior the locally assembled Fortuner would be. It's just that people don't have any alternative to it and once they see better quality zero meter SUVs available here, they will definitely go for that.

Good chance it'll sell

Everyone was sounding alarms about sportage failure, it worked out way better than anyone ever expected a mid size suv to do over here.

Picanto seemed like a failure in the start but now it seems to be doing decent numbers if roads in Lahore are an example.

It shows they actually research the market and do not rely on people sitting over here to make decisions so good chance they know what they're going

It's not just about the looks.

It's not a proper off-roader like Fortuner. Not much ground clearance. No 4WD.

Sure, can sometimes go off-road, but not a rigged machine like Fortuner for offroading.

Yep, Fortuner is pathetic when it comes to comfort.. we do need a proper local offroader to compete against it.. Both in LOOKS as well as FUNCTIONALITY.

BUT Sorento is not that off-roading SUV.

yes I agree with you ... these are valid points and sorento doesnt come close to fortuner when doing proper offroading but not everyone buys fortuner for offroading.

The things that can make sorento popular are:

price (which should be lower then fortuner in any case) and it will be considering its old gen and also how lucky group priced sportage.

comfort; sorento has multilink suspension and according to reviewers it has one of the best seats in all 7 seater SUVs (fortuner doesnt come close to this)

Power; sorento will be the only option offering 3,3L V6 (295 hp) and even the lower 2.4L is better than 2.7L of fortuner.

Features: It will have panroof, auto dimming mirrors, dual electric seats, list goes on and on.

I think PKDM will have a 3.5LV6 MPI with 276HP. This is what KLM imported as well. Maybe its a 3.3LV6 in because that was also available for 3rd gen Sorento but was slowly discontinued from KIA/ Hyundai group engines.

Front is double wishbone
And rear is coil spring.

And no doubt ... no one can beat Toyota in reliability but Koreans aren’t that far behind either.

Looks like a few concepts are messed up here. Coil spring or leaf spring are not suspension setups. They are just a small part. Multi-link can be with either. Any suspension setup with essentially 3 or more control links is called a "multi-link" suspension.

Fortuner has a four-link rear suspension, aka a "multi link" setup. The front is as you said, a double-wishbone setup. However, the good thing is this vehicle has both front and rear independent suspension.

I guess coil spring set up is more for proper rugged off roading but compromises on comfort.

A guy from dealership told me that bookings will start from 15th January and vehicle will be display in February.
No idea about price and features.
