My name is Ali and ive recently bought a Spectra too, its 2002 and has 39,000kms on it, its a real good car and that factory CNG thing makes you feel like ur driving the car on petrol ... sometimes i have to check the switch kay im driving it on CNG ya petrol ! im in karachi by the way.

saqib bahi shouild i switch my spectra to cng some people say it is not successful on cng what do u say till 70000km done on petrole its giving me 13km on highway and 8.5km in city. tell me what to do???

i do have examples around me of CNG converted spectra. It has all the usual problems of converting EFI car to CNG, nothing very different from any other car except the fact that most people are not real experts in converting a spectra but they do it somehow.

Your Petrol average is not bad considering u r in Multan.

i like classic but Dewan Frooque do not like both these brands
Maybe thats why Kia's always had a step treatment compared to Hyundai

Now Kia are separated from Hyundai and new dealerships are taking shape for KIa vehicles. Imported cars will be available

When i went to buy my spectra with my mind made up, the dealer told me not to buy it and go for Honda City instead. Now thats good salesmanship.

To date he tries to justify his statement and i keep on teasing him

same thing happened in 2002 when another friend went to buy one and was told the same thing by the salesman.

Dewan people are so happy with sales of their santro's and shehzore that they dont consider this a big problem so the same is not addressed to date. Dealers made heavy bills for repairs on check engine lights to full annoyance of custiomers when actual problem being realy minor. What fate is expected from a car which is treated like this.

I have friends in dewan and they know all these issues but they are of opinion that we cannot manage things on this scale. Dealers wrongdoings are there own deeds. Thats good management i must say. Now the whole lineup is discontinued with bad reputition spread all around. I joke with Hyundai people when i see sales figures of Coupe, Sonata and Terracan. i tell them these cars have "Kis kee bad'dua" and they have no answer to that

From online stats and pictures, the Rio looks great in the US. People are loving the new model over there and if it came down here, I'd go for one. I would have gone for a Spectra but had a limited budget. Still, the Classic is still running strong and I'm glad there are other people who appreciate these "unattended cars."

The only positive which comes out of less resale value is that I got mine cheap!

These days people are looking around for spectra and things went to that extent that Dealership in Islamabad came up with two brand new ones, i dont know from where Maybe these two were crippled during production and now they have put in replacement parts to make them work.

That is incredibly weird. I guess if Dewan had paid much more attention to these 2 cars, they wouldnt have ceased production. I mean come on! Dewan had a 1300cc & 1500cc regular and luxury sedans that were just as good and affordable. Thats what comes into play the most: affordability. And what happened? Dewan buried them for Santro and Shehzore. Not that they arent bad cars, but honestly a Santro cant give any normal household everything. (sigh) I guess I could wail on this all day, but oh well...

Of course, if you look at a couple of years down the line, both these cars could be very good second hand options like those 1980s Civics, Accords and Corollas a couple of years ago. I found the Classic to be an incredibly good second hand car and people could go for these cars when they go cheaper down the road.

Reputition is damn important
If a toyota or a honda has bad anything and needs some repair, people dont complain much but if a Kia has same problem at same mileage in same condition, they start bragging about it.

I think comparisons are not realy fair generaly.

I usualy see headlights completely blacked out on most spectra, especialy in dusty areas like Faisalabad.

I complained the fact to company through proper channel and they said it is a manufacturing problem adn we get the lights from Korea the same way. This factor alone gave a bad name to the car, but Dewan had an easy answer to it. Rather then solving the problem they just accepted it and let the car suffer.

Toyota is using special breathers for their headlamps in current model, coz old one had same problem of darkening. But Dewan decided to withdraw rather then fight.

I have serveral questions

1) wat is its avg on petrol and gas i-e., with AC or without AC?

2) wat is the price of a CNG fitted spectra in mint condition?

3) wat were its major reasons to flop?

4) And most of all why this car was not use for modifications?

check thse out, these are not in oakistan but are nicely modded.

I have seen few moded spectra's in pakistan as well. one is usualy parked outside NAFDEC cinema in violet colour, excellent car.

On petrol i get 9-10 in city, with AC it is 9 max
On highway i get 13-14

On CNG i get 2 Rs. per Km based on todays prevailing rate
On highway it can get as low as 1.5

On AC u can increase be 15%

CNG fitted mint condition spectra can be found for 550000 or a little above

Reasons for flop are discussed here already. its more about perception or people that it is called a flop. sale of more then 5500 vehicles in 4 years is not a flop to me.

It was sold on premium for first 2 years as high as 2 lac rupees. First car was sold in Sialkot for 13 lac rupees.

thanx spectra for ur reply they r really very helpful, I appreciate them but u didnt answer my last ques. which was not abt body modification rather it was abt its engine enhancemnts like turbos and psi's etc. and havent seen any spectra on the track (since i lived in karachi).
