Something weird happened to my car over the weekend ...
My brother had gone to Daewoo stop to pick up a friend who was visiting. When he came back, he told me he had heard a loud thud from the engine compartment while he was backing up in the bus top, after which the engine stalled and turned off. He tried to start again, which was successful and the car started running fine. Not being much of a techie, he didn't bother looking into it.
I opened up the bonnet and saw to my surprise (and grief) that the battery was blown. It was cracked open from one side and I could see that the plates inside were broken as well. The acid had leaked out on to the car body, which of course I washed immediately. The wire going to the amplifier directly from the battery was burnt away. Also, the air filter assembly had blown open as well!
Anyways, I took the car straight to the battery guy. He didn't have the required model handy, I will get it today. He said he will clean out all the area where the acid contacted the body and repaint it as to avoid corrosion. Then I went to Gawalmandi Kiyani autos and bought a new air filter assembly (original for 2,600) and got it fitted right there.
I am not sure how this all happened. I know that the air filter assembly was repaired once so it was already weak. Maybe the connection to the amplifier was slightly loose and that put extra load on the battery. The terminal to which the amplifier was attached also had some deposits on it. Perhaps that was the reason.
In any case, it was weird and all in all it cost my 7,500 straight out of the blue
