My car used to give me 8-9 in city and 11-14 on long routes but i have seen some doing as bad as 5 km/liter

This is mainly because of valve angle difference, corolla engine (5A-FE) has narrow valve angle designed for economy, on the other hand, for some stranbge reason, spectra has a wide angle DOHC head which is performance oriented and economy takes a back seat
