And here it comes
The ride department. The only long drive I had in a Sportage was as a passenger from Dera Nawab Sahib to Derwar Fort in the Cholistan desert. I can assure you the road was not the best. For no particular reason it was decided that my Tiggo 8 (in which I had just driven from Islamabad to Dera Nawab) was to be left at my cousin's house and we would take his Sportage for the drive to the Fort. The most immediate feeling I got as a passenger was how nice the ride was. The suspension compared to the Tiggo 8 is next level also the bump-thump noise from the suspension which is a bit intrusive in the Tiggo 8 is much better isolated from the cabin. The ride of the Tiggo 8 is just too bouncy and on roads with uneven surfaces the Tiggo 8 rocks from left to right. This makes the passenger heads bob left and right. So in the ride dept Sportage gets the nod. In this section we cannot ignore the fact that the Sportage has a AWD option which is missed in the Tiggo 8. Many times I have got the Tiggo 8 stuck and wished it had AWD. For traction nod goes to Sportage.
Next is Fuel economy. I cannot say anything about the Sportage, but in the Tiggo 8, living in Islamabad, I get 9.5km/L to 10.5Km/L with a/c in the city. As a special gift from Tiggo 8, since last refill 4 days ago, it has given me 11.7Km/L in the city but this is a freak economy. On the highway it is 13-14Km/L. When my grandkids come over from abroad, the car used to keep standing in front of shops for up to 45 mins at a stretch with a/c running while my kids did their shopping and I did the baby sitting in the car. This type of usage plays havoc with fuel economy. Under these conditions I got 8.5Km/L - 9Km/L.
Next is features. We need not talk about seating and interior space. That nod obviously goes to the Tiggo 8. Also the nod goes to Tiggo 8 for interior styling with the Cinnamon/Black colour scheme. Tiggo 8 has a full ADAS suite which is missing in the Sportage. Now that I am used to all the safety and driving aids in the Tiggo 8, I find it difficult to drive cars without ADAS. There is just no comparison between the Tiggo 8 to Sportage as far as features are concerned, nod goes to Tiggo 8. There are so many features in the Tiggo 8 that I will completely take up 2 pages of this thread.
Next is performance. Here we have the Tiggo 8 having 197hp/290Nm torque vs Sportage having 155hp/196Nm torque. The Tiggo 8 will accelerate to 100km/h in 8.5 sec. Don't know about Sportage. If we go by just the power figures, the nod goes to Tiggo 8. Here I can say that the Tiggo engine is 1.6 while the Sportage is 2.4 so there are some savings on taxes. However now the govt is thinking of charging tax on car value vs engine size. Speaking of power, under full acceleration from standstill there is unacceptable amount of tire spin in first, second and even third gear. This is very disadvantageous in a traffic light "chook". The other car speeds away while the Tiggo 8 is just standing there spinning tires.
In the exterior looks department, the Tiggo 8 has a bit more road presence as compared to the Sportage.
In the resale and demand depatment, the Sportage takes the nod hand down. Trying to sell the Tiggo 8 is pretty difficult.
Already taken too much space here. Time to sign off.
