Don't listen to them. Even the top most car critics in the world support break in and ensure they do it on every new car they get.
What you have to do is to keep the RPMs under 2000-2200 max. No sudden acceleration or braking. Avoid going uphills and even if you have to do, go with minimum load in the car. Also, avoid using long routes and specially cruise control. It's better to ensure that car speed and gears change so every gear gets to have its time. I did the same on my Sportage and it worked wonderfully well
