In addition to Sportage Alpha, I also have a Proton X70 booking (CKD) since Feb 2021 and yes... it has been delayed a lot as they had given "4th quarter 2021" as tentative delivery. Recently they requested extra money for the booking and with that revised date given is now March 2022. The plant was supposed to be operational by September, but looks like they will start mass production in January. Things are confirmed now as Malaysian engineering team has been working at the pakistani plant and import data also shows a few X70 CKD kits have been imported.
Baaki as far as the car itself, quality, engine and everything else is concerned, x70 is simply an incredible feature packed vehicle, which is why I am choosing to wait for it. The interior/exterior is better, it has a more powerful engine and you get smart autonomous features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, 360 degree camera. What furthered cemented my buying decision was that X70 was thoroughly tested on Pakistani roads on local fuel for a year, hence no requirement of hi octane. The engine technology platform is one that is shared with Volvo, so reliability is not a concern. Bas gaari mil jaye, it will easily be the best CKD crossover in the market.
