To be honest 172 mm ground clearance is a big turnoff. AWD would be waste of money as you can only take it where the Corolla goes. We don't have snow here, so what's the point of it? You will have to pay higher price, then extra for maintenance and also higher fuel consumption, and the only real benefit would be slightly better handling.

Last night I saw a recent episode of Top Gear where Sportage was driven by Andrew Flintoff in a drag race, Sportage lost to a hearse and every other car in that race. You should see this episode it was funny.

I have to agree with @Nabs it would be silly to pay more for AWD in Pakistan and pay extra maintenance plus fuel unless you reside in Northern areas and have to tackle snows in winter, where this AWD would come in handy.

Current fanfare about Sportage is just out of novelty, as people have been bored witless with the existing automakers.

I agree with your 2nd para... but if someone wants powered seats and leather interior then he’l have to go extra...
For 3rd you are right upto a certain extent... but considering the car prices now it looks a promising option. Unless we have new players in the field, market would not saturate and pricing won’t dilute.

waisey on a side note yeh custom duties car ki sale price pe honi chahiye engine size pe nahy. This is ridiculous that if a person wants to buy a prado or landcruiser he has to sell couple of houses(if he owns any in the first place). And these cars are not even luxury cars.

I want to buy a decent 4 wheeler because I like to travel north frequently but even the used and abused 2011-12 prado bhy crore pe chali gayee hai, had hai.

Because, genius, Fortuner is a full-sized SUV. It's best suited to haul tons of people and cargo anywhere you want. It's not meant to do a drag race from 0-60, which I'm sure is your benchmark of 'underpowered'. It uses the same engine that Hilux does. Now call Hilux underpowered, I dare you

Sportage's engine is even less powerful than the Civic Turbo, so I'm sure it'll do great with it's AWD system and it's ground clearance which is as much as a Corolla.

Spot on. I mean just the fact that @drtariqazeem is yet to list at least 3 big features Sportage offers that other cars here don't should tell you plenty. Sportage is an alright car, nothing to write home about. You really need to ask yourself, what exactly am I getting by paying 15 lac over a Corolla for an AWD Sportage.

Lol. You are comparing a CUV with a SUV and a sedan at the same time. Sportage is not an offroader. Why do you keep bringing up a stupid comparison? And it is the price point that is attractive to people.
Fortuner with that garbage ride and underpowered engine costs double the amount. Not everyone cares about 7 seats or going to Cholistan. It's like telling someone hey don't get a Civic, get a fortuner because you can't go off road in a Civic.
No one here is claiming that Sportage is a powerhouse or dune basher. It is priced right in the current market and that is what is appealing to people.

Fair point. People are sick of Corolla and Civic. Anything else that is decent with competitive features and price will attract the consumer.

What does it matter who brought up fortuner initially? You are the only one who keeps bringing up fortuner in every post. Praising it's ability to do wonders. Have you ever wondered why most people disagree with you on almost everything you say? Go figure!

Guys fortuner is totally a different category/segment
It was a car which every one wanted bcz most of them wanted a ‘big gari’. Its only shashka when no one uses it for offroading .in my opinion only 10% of fortuner owner went offroad baki sab use it in city so whats the point of spending 8.8+ million ?
Fortuner was a good car when it was for under 6million but for almost 9 million ! No way
Most importantly it has worst suspension! U feel each and every khada and jump on the road

Does fortuner has
Auto tailgate opening when u come near to tailgate ?
Auto dimming mirror
Panoramic roof (doesnt even have sunroof)
Standard auto D+P seats ?
And much more thn that
All under 5.5 million ?
I visited KIA showroom and sportage has all that what you need! And as they say theres nothing like it! (In Pakistani Market)

1. Front dual zone climate control.
2. Parking sensors (Rear).
3. Heated side view mirrors.
4. Infotainment with android auto and apple CarPlay
5. Lumbar support for driver.
6. Auto dimming rearview mirror.
7. Panoramic sunroof.
   These are the ones i can think of on top of my head which aren’t offered in any other locally assembled vehicle.
