Please have some mercy on this tiny little engine I even don't put stress on my 2JZ manual in this speed ratio.
Always choose the gear ratios properly in low speeds hypermiling is a good thing but this will ends in catastrophe if continued.

Using hi octane fuel in these engines will cause severe carbon buildup in combustion chambers, which will lead to this knock condition later on.

The recommeded fuel for your car is written in the owner manual, and is sold as premium fuel across Pakistan also called saada petrol.

No have driven city 1.3m 2012 which would be driven on fourth gear at 40kmph. If I don't do this the car doesn't give more than 10kmpl while city in same situation easily returned 13-14. Do tell suitable shift point and min rpms which gave to be maintained in this car

If you're looking at live fuel consumption numbers, they are false. And if your car returns less than 10kmpl per tank on an average, then you need to address other problems first. I have practically done 14kmpl on the same car, stable fuel consumption, while driving with a heavy foot, until I sold the car off.

I agree with everything you said, but this car has been driven the same way from day one. It only started to knock on this driving style recently. Could you tell why it didn't show any symptoms before?

Id also like to add using thin oil in an old car will only cause knocking as cylinder isn't able to maintain pressure due to wear and tear(Also thick oil usage) plus thi engine only has a theoretical life of 200,000. So use 5w-30 up till 40,000/60,000 and 5w-40 till 100,000 after 100,000 switch to 10w-40 and keep using it till health deteriorates, last option is 20w-50. This is only an estimate. If car is driven carefully by single owner thinner oils may be used. But majority of Corollas are abused in Pakistan so better to go with same grade previous owner is using, not thinner because someone on the internet said so. I'm speaking here from experience and am willing to debate it if someone car present facts

High octane in local commute or slow drive is poison for this engine. Use only if u r going for a high speed motorway run and even there as well high octane is not required.
It burns slow and use of High octane at slow speeds must have formed soot deposits on the cylinder heads which is now somehow contributing to the knocking.

I did, all the mechanic did was perform tuning and he literally said to use high octane. But I stopped using it as it was getting very expensive
