I own a Toyota Belta (1.0L Variant) since 2013 with its original 1Krfe engine. Never gone to any workshop for engine tune up etc. Regularly changing the engine oil (strictly after 2K to 2.5K Kilometers with original Air filters) and cvt-tf after 40k with original spark plugs (which are recently changed). The oddo is currently at 125K.
Facing strange problems from previous 6 months
1. Engine starts giving knocking sound while accelerating between 30 to 40 KM/h (The sound is exactly like if you try to accelerate a manual car in a higher gear at too low speed) but it only happens with light foot and go away if I press the gas pedal a little harder.
The same knocking sound also appears with light foot while cruising at 80 to 90 KM/h. (Only at constant speeds)
Engine struggles to exceed the speed of 100 KM/h. Sure it can go up to 150Km/h with full throttle, however, driving it at 120 feels like engine is at higher RPM's than usual. I have to press hard to take the vehicle from 100 to 120 (it was not the case around 6 months ago).
Previously the vehicle was giving me fuel average of 18 to 20 KM/L at highways but now its dropped to 15 KM/L.
Local mechanics of my city, despite having all the fancy gadgets, were unable to identify the issue. They are simply suggesting an engine swap to 1.3L. According to them the 1Krfe is underpowered. However, I do not agree because they were unable to pin point the cause of problem.
Request: -
- What could be the possible issues and what diagnostics should I ask the mechanic to run?
- Plz suggest an experienced and honest mechanic from Lahore who can provide a dedicated time slot to inspect my car.
Any help in the matter shall be highly appreciated.
