December 2015 we did Mount Mehdi, the name of that volcano was kept by me. This year we went to another volcano, Mehdi suggested that it should be called Mount Hanif.
Story line by Mehdi Hussain.
Koh-e-Hanif or Mount Hanif Mud Volcano is a 1,500 feet+ high alive mud volcano. It is located at the Eastern edge of Hingol National Park, Baluchistan, some 180 KMs from Karachi. It has a mud glacier 3 KMs long and has multiple mud vents on top of it. It also has a very big cave network underneath its glacial surface.
It was first photographed by Mr. Hanif Bhatti and was recognized as a potential volcano by Mr. Mehdi Hussain in 2009. After multiple recce trips to this volcano, Both of these gentlemen arranged a complete exploration trip of this volcano on 17th December, 2016. A group of 15 people, out of which 13 were male and 2 were female, climbed up the tough terrain of Koh-e-Hanif. They were able to reach to the live mud vent and did their data collection.
The name is given to Mr. Hanif Bhatti for him being, undoubtedly, the most avid traveler of Pakistan and happened to be the first person to shoot and share the photos of this volcano. The first explorer group decides to give the name after him.
