City Traffic Police Lahore have announced that the Kalma underpass towards Liberty market is closed. The step is taken due to the construction of the Central Business District (CBD) Punjab Kalma underpass remodeling.
The police have advised the commuters to take an alternate route from Canal and jail road to approach Liberty Market and Main boulevard, Gulberg. It means if you are coming from Barkat Market to Kalma Chowk, don't use the underpass; instead, take a left turn on Ferozepur road and then make a U-turn from Canal and reach Liberty market through Qaddafi Stadium.
The police further shared that the congestion level for traffic is medium.

Kalma Underpass Construction
The remodeling of Kalma underpass has been ongoing since November 2022. The underpass and bridge of Kalma Chowk are one of the major traffic intersections in Lahore. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Assad Malhi, stated that the remodeling of Kalma Chowk has started. "Heavy machinery is working, and that is why there are alternative routes for the commuters," CTO said. Alternative Routes from Kalma Chowk
In his statement, he shared three routes for the people:
- People going from Barkat Market to Liberty Market should take a left turn from Kalma Chowk, take a U-turn from Muslim Town Morr, and reach Liberty Market through Gaddafi Stadium.
- Similarly, traffic coming from Model Town for Liberty Market will also go straight to Muslim Town Morr, take a U-Turn and reach the market through the stadium.
- And commuters coming from Firdaus Market want to go to Liberty Market or Main Boulevard, Gulberg, via Hussain Chowk.
"The people will have to face problems temporarily because we have closed down two lanes out of 4," CTO shared. He said the traffic would move properly once the work is completed.
So, if you want to reach your destination in time, please follow the instructions of the traffic police and take alternate routes.
