This was my 4th road-trip from Lahore to Karachi with my family, so i decided to make it challenging (well sort of) and take few risks so sharing my experience here.
Car: City 1.3 Manual (2016)
Total Duration : 16h NON Stop (including short stop overs for refueling, lunch, tea) -
Routes Taken: M3 (Lahore - Abdul Hakeem Motorway) , M5 Multan to Sukkur , N5 Sukkur to Hyderabad, M9 Hyderabad to Karachi
Mileage: 16km
Fuel Cost: Around 7500 (half tank still intact when i reached karachi)
We left Lahore at about 5:00P.M (yes in the evening) for Multan via M3 (lahore - Abdul Hakeem motorway), reached Multan at about 9.00 pm (took Vihari interchange in search for McDonald and refueling for m5 ).
Services areas are not yet functional except one. There's a mosque which has clean washrooms, near Jaranwala Interchange (see map other than that all services areas ares are yet to be built/opened.
After a short stop over we headed towards Multan m5 interchange at around 9.30. On entrance there's list of advisories by NHMP to make sure you have full tank, enough water and food supplies, good tyres with spares and not travelling at night with family (the only one i ignored) . Anyway i put my trust in Allah and start my journey towards sukkur. There was very few traffic, even for miles i traveled alone with no car or truck in sight. Road is awesome. You could hardly resist the temptation to floor it to 140+ but i kept it between 120 as there's no fench and you may come across wild dogs crossing the road. so its' better to keep it under control. There were some patches which was cordoned off probably due to accident or maintenance work.
I managed to reach Sukkur at around 3:00 A.M. I had still quarter tank left so i got my tank refueled and headed to Hyderabad via N5 and was surprised to see that there's almost no traffic as that time. Reached Hyderabad at around 8:00 AM. Stayed there for breakfast and then reached karachi via m9 at around 12. This was the first time i drove 16th non stop and i would say it was a great experience: no peak hour traffic issue, kids were also sleeping so it was a peaceful drive and pretty doable IMO. There's no security issue for travelling sindh at night. Infact you would love it as there's almost no traffic at this time.
