Lancer 1.6 GLX radiator fan replacement

Recently, one of the dual radiator fans in my lancer crapped out. The mechanic I went to diagnosed a dying fan motor and suggested to replace it.

He replaced it with another lancer's fan, but maybe a different year model (mine in 2005 dewan import) as the new fan had 4 wires for Hi-Lo speed fan operation, whereas the original fan only had one speed. He connected the replacement fan at the high speed configuration to the fan controller as a workaround.

I'm concerned that while the replacement fan is working OK, the replacement fan's high speed may not be suitable electronically (i.e. fuse-wise or increased current-wise). Is my concern legitimate and should I opt for a more suitable replacement or am I worrying for nothing?

Are your fans direct? Sounds like your electrician has made both the fans working on direct mode which is basically not good for the fan motors and the engine. The fans are running continuously causing a burden to the wiring and the motor.

You should be getting them at auto mode with a working thermostat in your car...

No, they aren't direct. They don't start when the engine is on, but a little after. And the fans fluctuate between on and off on cold start - i'm assuming that is normal operation since my car has done that from the beginning

Yes that's is the factory setting to auto. That's is perfect they should be stopping and starting at required interval for the engine to be at optimum temperature. Does this happens only when the engine is cold?

So you are saying that both the fans vary in speed. Or you guy just plugged in the new one on a high speed setting.

If the fans are turning off and on by themselves you need not to worry it is a regular operation but you electrician should have replaced the fan to something marching the original one.
