Lancer Heating

I have got lancer 2005 1.3. Its fan is direct. I pushed the car and it got heat up.
What could be the reason? Should i make the fan auto or keep it direct.

running that engine or most of todays engines without a thermostat will cause them to overheat as their bypass ports remain wide open. The thermostat valve actually closes off the bypass port to force all coolant into the radiator for maximum cooling when required.

I have just got the car today. I don't know why the last owner kept the fan direct.
Could you please tell me what precautions should i take or what steps should i follow to make the fan auto in order to preventing heating and damaging my engine.

The fan is direct and there is water in the radiator.
Mechanic told me to keep it direct to be safe as i dont know the car history.

Its probably toast.

the manufacturer (mitsubishi) were not idiots to install an expensive thermostat in there and make the fan run off a system that engages it as required only.

What you can do is to clean the system with some citric acid, then fill with water and pressure test it to 16 psi to verify integrity (replace any part that is leaking, specially radiator if the cap area is repaired or broken). Install new thermostat, fill with coolant/water mixture and test the cooling fan for operation.

Beware: - your system may spring massive leaks after cleanup if it is in extreme poor condition.

What you need to do is open up all the parts and inspect/replace them as necessary. Use a good radiator flush and then use coolant only in the car. Although these engines are called water cooled engines, water is only meant to be used in case of emergencies. Coolant is to be used at all times.

How to check the pressure if it is 16 psi or not?
Secondly, If any leaks happen, are those easy to fix or are they gonna cost me expensive repairs.
How much does thermostat valve costs?

Also, if the pressure is low. Than what do i need to do to fix it.

any good mechanic will have a radiator pressure tester, its a radiator cap with a pipe fitting on it, Its put on and then pumped with a hand pump (like bicycle pump) and measured with an inline gauge. Some even use a tire valve.

Once at 16 psi, check if its dropping pressure, if it is, then pump again and find the leak.

I have bought the Thermostat valve. Today i have put radiator cleaner into the radiator. We drained some water it was very clean. There were no visible signs of rust in radiator. Lets see when i bleed it tomorrow if anything leaks or not.
The car has clocked 200k odo and i know nothing about its history. Should i put 5W40 or 10w40.
I do own an a complete modern car maintenance workshop and an oil shop. Though, i dont trust my mechanics and i am in a learning process.

The car is facing another issue, the rpm is low on start and the car vibrates. On achieving optimum engine temperature the rpm shoots up to 1800 on idle and while in motion the rpm stay fine but as soon i i put it in neutral the rpm again shoots upto 1800. What could be the reason?

your idle speed motor is dead and someone has stuck the throttle blade open so it doesnt stall.

Also, The car has some alternation in the Air cleaner. It has some corolla air cleaner installed. I bought its original Air cleaner and will be getting it installed tomorrow.
One fan motors wires are cut and its motor is burnt. I bought a new one and will be getting installed tomorrow. The person i bought from said, your radiator motor auto switch on shroud must be malfunctioned thats why the previous owner would have made the fan direct? Can this be the case?
