Lancer start-up problem

Hi all,

Recently, my 1.6 MT Dewan Import Lancer stopped starting - the engine would crank but it wouldn't start-up.
A mechanic diagnosed it and said the fuel pump was weak.

Replaced the Fuel Pump with HKT aftermarket fuel pump (the correct model (gip 501) and the fuel filter as well.
The fuel pump is working, however the car still isn't starting - if starter fluid is sprayed in the air intake, it starts up, idles slightly then dies.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Did you checked injectors?

The problem could be incorrect refitting of one or more small rubber pieces in the fuel filter assembly. That can cause the fuel pump to suck in air and not pump fuel at all. That would be the right place to start. You should also get injectors checked but know that injectors rarely ever clog up fully.

Yeap..that was the problem. Rubber fittings were not properly installed. However the car is still cranking a bit too long now

If it’s an old fuel filter then it may require cleaning or maybe the mechanic still hasn’t put the rubber pieces properly into place.

Nope...it's a bit noisy and takes a bit longer to crank.

Parts-Central recommended another - DREIK DFP4300
