Land Rover Series 3 - mini restoration, advice needed

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a SWB Land Rover Series 3 from Karachi from a fellow forum member and would like some advice please about a suitable mechanic/body shop in the Islamabad/Pindi area.

The Rover is currently in decent shape and quite presentable but i'd like to freshen it up as much as possible all the while keeping things OEM.

The chassis is solid nevertheless i'd still like to have the body removed and this restored/painted. I'm sure there will be some odd/minor mechanical work also required.

Apart from these, i've purchased a new interior (carpet/seats, headlining), roof rack, wheels/tyres, new parabolic springs, etc - these will all need fitting.

I've attached a picture of my rover and another of what I aim to achieve. I'd appreciate any recommendations of any decent places that do good quality work with minimal hassle (I'm sure the last part is wishful thinking! but one can hope!)

Actually your Rover looks better than the one you posted(what you want to achieve)....I would say that you do not touch it now...just drive it....you can add a rack or whatever you want, but it does not look as it needs a frame off resto...

Thanks for the compliment - yes indeed I do feel lucky to have found such a Rover and in its condition. However, I do like the look of fatter tyres plus when offroad they do offer superior performance.
The chassis is by no means wrotten but could do with a cosmetic refresh and as i'm having minor work done, it makes sense to get all done in one go. The interior needs the most work as there area few rips and tears.

I was roaming around F-10 Markaz recently chatting to the bodyshops there to get a feel of the work they do but admittedly have no experience in getting this sort of work done in Pakistan. The next stop is City Saddar Road in Pindi.

If anyone knows any particular places that do great work (body and mechanics) that would be helpful. I'll get some detailed pics up on here shortly.

Post in land rover fan club thread at pakwheels... they will guide you which mechanic to go to. As others might ruin it. Secondly keep it as it is because such LR is a rare sight

I would recommend please visit Mandi Bahaudin for any Land rover defender /discovery older models parts and restoration or upgrades...

Salman please stay in touch with Irshad bhai, he probably has more Land Rover experience than most people here. Also be very careful about denting, I don't remember there being any denting required on this babe, the aluminium body will get destroyed in a couple of minutes if placed in the wrong hands.
