Laptop buying advice

Salam to all

I want to buy a laptop. My range is PKR 40k - 50k. I need your suggestions based on your experience so that I choose the best one. While suggesting me do consider following points.

1. I want a brand new one.
2. It should come with warranty.
3. Must come with core2duo or above processor.
4. 1GB DDR 2/3 RAM + 80GB HDD (minimum).
5. Bluetooth, Webcam.
6. Its going to be used for usual assignment related works so no specialized kind of laptop is needed (games, graphics etc.). Moreover, I'm not looking for any particular brand.
7. It must be reliable (no pains of getting it fixed time to time).
8. Its going to be a gift so cool glossy color/looks will be preferred, if not in contradiction with any of above points.

HP 530 fulfills all requirements aside from being glossy, you should also check myshop.com.pk for the latest ones, some acer will perhaps be in range...

Thing is i have seen a few laptps in the 40-50k price range but all have not had Windows installed.

As for your demands - the only reliable thing in the market in your price range is HP. Just beware that HP screens suck. Otherwise, they're cheap, reliable and above all, glossy

yup HP530 u il get in this price well i dnt think so if there is any laptop with 2.0 and on the other hand 1gb and 80 gb
u il be able to find one with all these things easily except 2.0 core2duo n 50k but the processor in case will be like 1.6 or1.8 dual core possibly

I would recommend a TOSHIBA, nothing beats it in performance and reliability (I've been using one for more than 2 years now)... Plus the new Satellite range is quite glossy too.. So I guess it would quite perfectly meet your listed criteria..

I've no experience of laptops. Have always gone for desktops. My list is not an exhaustive one. +,- is ok.

I was seeling hp dv 6460 last month.
Though sold @ 40k
The looks were much more cooler than hp 530, with glossy imprint finish
Now i am using hp dv 6.
Now for u, buy hp 530,
Or by increasing some budget u may get dell machines...

hmmm well, not any specific in my mind right now, but go for any Toshiba, especially in the Satellite range (if you want it cool/hip, glossy etc.), and you wouldn't repent it..

Ok, I've gone through ebay now, if you want the glossy one, you'll be looking for something in the Satellite range and A series.. e.g. the following one is a Toshiba Satellite A500, costs AUD1000 something..its a bit out of your budget but thats because its quite decently specd too..

Core 2 Duo P7350, 16" widescreen, 500GB, 4GB Ram, 512MB Dedicated Video Memory, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.. plus all the other standard goodies..

and then there is this another one.. it too is from the Satellite range but L series.. this particular one is L500 and costs AUD900 something..

Core 2 Duo T6400, 16" widescreen, 320GB, 3GB Ram, Shared Graphics Memory, Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit...

btw my notebook stays on for almost 15-16 hours every day ever since I've bought it, but not even a single blip so far... its as tough as a toyota Hilux

I am going to suggest that you also look into Netbook category too. I am starting to see more and more business people using these very handy little machines. They have certain obvious limitations; small screen size and lack of built-in cd/dvd are the most obvious.

I have been using a Toshiba Satellite X205-S9800 for a couple of years. No problems at all.
