No seriously, China has been gifted with an aesthetic sense of a... toilet paper? They can make anything look ugly on their own right. Look what they’ve done to the Swift sedan. It is what happens when you hand over Automotive Industry to a bay-blade making country.

(No offence plz- everyone, everywhere is picking on Pakistan, so I thought why not our closest friends then?)

I mean I really appreciate these local car companies’ efforts. They have car assembling plants here, they employ thousands of people. They indirectly support a million. They pay part in local industrial stability and some tax maybe.
To me all local car assemblers (Suzuki, Toyota, Honda) are still better then import things and Mitsubishi and Nissan vendors who have been making fun of us lot and Pakistan's economy by selling a hand full of cars and then disappearing.

Look what damage we’ve done to our local industry. Maybe if we could just stick to local cars instead of imports. We could have made the car prices more stable today. Look it this way, if we buy more local cars, their cost per car comes down a little bit and thus making it cheaper to make for them and us.

I think you misunderstood what I am trying to say. I have not even ONCE said anything about imports. My point was the quality of local manufactured cars is not good. Technical production standards of PakSuzuki are behind all other countries where Suzuki operates. I appreciate them employing local people and giving them jobs but in the end its a Japanese firm with 70% japanese shares and there is a reason the Japanese are here(profit repatriation back to Japan in the long term).

And if the government kept a check on auto manufacturers we would have been producing export quality cars, which would have brought heavy cash inflow to the country....you didn't pay much attention to the EXPORT part.

you might not be bothered by cars which have faulty breaks, are a risk to you and your family's life and pollute our environment due to obsolete carby engine (which are now banned across the globe due to high dangerous gas emissions ) but most people are now.

In the end the wealthy policy making government officials and the rich have their land cruzer's and prados, so they are hardly bothered by the quality of small cars that are being produced. It is the middle class people who suffer due to all this, and who have no other option in small cars than paksuzuki's(and the single odd cuore).

At a time where the world is heading towards increased competition, Paksuzuki is further establishing its monopoly in the country. Hyundai Santro and Chevrolet Joy have been discontinued, leaving the small car market with almost zero competition now.

now this happens to be the Changan SC7080 aka local Mehran.. just see the kind of interior it offers.. i can only wish if this sort of thing was done by Paksuzuki to improve its golden egg laying Mehran!! maybe then the price tag what it bears will be justified..

Although this Changan SC7080 was discontinued last year even in China our Mehran with its same old interior & features remains in production for nobody knows till when... However the Changan will be providing SC7080 spare parts supply for the next 10 years..

ok,... same sh*t, different form.

There were a few standing at choor chawk in Pindi and out of curiosity I checked them out,... honestly they looked good from far but far from good. up close the plastics felt cheaper than the local ones (somehow the Chinese managed to make a cheaper plastic) and the feedback on the engine from the guy selling it is that from the 10 or so cars he's sold till now 2 have had electrical faults resulting in the owners swapping out the engine for (slightly simpler) mehran engines, same case for the changan version of the carry dabba. My mechnic in Pindi swapped out a bolan engine into one of those because it broke and nobody could fix it.

result: Chinese cars may look better and offer a few more features but the bottom line is that our local garbage is still of slightly better quality (though the price of local cr@p makes no sense what-so-ever).

If the Chinese can make a car like the margalla (initial post) at the price that froggyjump calculated, with those features then I think that the local manufacturers should be shut down for good as they are clearly ripping the public off.

As I've said so many times, buy anything BUT a local car, only then will it make a difference so in this case (as with the other thread) I'd suggest anyone buys the Chinese car over the local until they improve quality and safety features.

Cant belive the chassis of mehran is still the same.The fault lies in our public.specialy in south asians!Why dont we c these stupid cars like mehran,liana & cultus cars like lunch boxes in west.like us,uk or canada.Because no one would buy them even if it costs 5000$ for a new one.We should stop buying suzukis n rather shift to cars like coure,chevelot or potons.Atleast the give us latest updates and technologys!

not trying to unnecessarily advocate the Chinese here but one thing to appreciate is that Chinese are in the coarse of improvement and they are doing that pretty fast. the Mehran look-alike posted above was discontinued last year even in China & has been replaced by a newer Alto but our same old Mehran is still under production here. Some 5 years back the Chinese were producing cars which were all cheap & boxy and looked pathetic but now they are producing some really better cars, may not be as good as Japanese or Germans but way better than what they were producing 5 years back. Their cars have now entered Asian, Australian, European & African markets and struggling to enter the American market too. People all around the world are using them and its not like what many of us think that they produce just crap.

Problems occur with every car, no need to discuss the standards of PakSuzuki here, every sort of problems in newly purchased under-warranty cars are common. There was a case reported at PW when a Civic airbags deployed without even a collision, how many of us will stop buying the civic based on the above incident. Another thread was about a latest Altis SR where the sunroof stopped working within 2 months of purchase, how many of us will start yelling Altis as a crap just because of the above incident?? there are similar stories for each & every brand but we consider those as 'just one of those unexpected incidents' but if its a Chinese product, every one will shout crap.

Its too easy to post youtube vidz about Chinese crash tests.. just tell me how many of our local cars can go through a crash test?? i challenge you to post any video. There was a time when these cars were not even awarded a single star in crash tests, now most of the Chinese cars have scored a 3 star result which demonstrates the improvement in a very short span of time. They are committed and they will produce quality cars like Japanese very soon. A boy falls from the bicycle several times before beginning to ride successfully. Unfortunately we are among those who post vidz of that kid falling from the bicycle saying, "see he cannot ride" while we ourselves are among those who walk!

I was reading a website where it was mentioned that there are more than 295 vehicle products produced in China, just count how many do we have??? not even 10 out of those every single product is a "pathetically assembled" obsolete unit rather than a properly produced Pakistani vehicle. and its nearly 2 decades that we are paying a hefty amount to buy local cars just for the sake of improving & flourishing our auto industry.. which hasn't happened yet.. we still get obsolete overpriced cars having no competition but a monopolized troika ruling our auto scenario. we consider 10 year old used car import as a blessing but we dont let the competitors offer us wonders.

Its time to change the way we think....
