Liana Second Gear Low Pickup

My Liana 2006 has a very low pickup on second gear, it barely gains speed on second gear and things get even worst when I try to push on second gear with AC. With AC it struggles to move on second gear.

What about third and fourth gear? Does it Accelerates crazily?

Not crazily because the car is underpower I think but as compared to other gears second gear is very weak. Car loses power on second gear it feels like you are trying to push car on high gear while the gear is just second.

Get the engine compression done at first. And then we can let you know what's the problem exactly causing this.
Because transmission has nothing to do with the power. Like 1,2,3,4,5 all behave well by means of power.

Bro its called hesitation and mostly it is due to your spark plugs or ignition coils are weaker and needs to be changed. First change spark plugs with original ngk iridium spark plugs. If problem not solved then check your ignition coils.

I have recently changed spark plugs and I have checked that my coils are fine and they are leaking no current.

are you using cheap Chinese spark plugs or original. Also pls inspect your spark plugs once and Can you share your car readings when coolant temp 95 without any electric load

I have used original NGK spark plugs and I have inspected my ignition coils as well and there is no current leakage. I recently scanned my car but I forgot to note the readings but the technician said that all readings are fine.

Are you using cng or petrol only?Car starting is good or long cranking?

My car runs on both CNG and petrol but this issue is similar on both CNG and petrol. No matter what fuel you are using second gear sucks. Engine starting is good it doesn't take any time.

Also check your cat converter, it could be plugged up if everything else checks out fine. A quick way is to remove the precat O2 sensor and go for a quick drive. If you get your power back, your converter is plugged up.

Do you have a cel? This can also guide you if there are codes present.

Bro my car is missing cat converter. Is this because of cat converter? In my opinion cat converter has nothing to do with power.

If it's clogged then oh yes it will. If it's missing then no. You have something else going on.

I would follow above suggestion of compression test first. Then go from there

I think engine compression depends on condition of engine and my engine is in optimum condition, there is no work required in engine.

Brother I’m surprised no one till now has mentioned here that 2nd gear low pickup is one of the famous problems of Liana since its launch.

Pakwheels is filled with many threads (even from way back i.e. 2007-2008 time period) discussing the same issue.

I too have kept Liana for over 02 years and used to drive it on both CNG & Petrol. The issue was persistent on both fuels and was more noticable while using the A/c.

I generally shift gears at or under 2000 rpm (regardless of any car) and on Liana I used to feel severe sluggishness in 2nd gear. Afterwards I used to shift from 2nd to 3rd at around 3000-3200 rpm (with a heavy foot) and I felt a bit improvement in the pickup.
For reference I currently have a 2007 GLi and I shift from 2nd to 3rd around 1800-2000 rpm and never have felt it underpowered or sluggish.

So to conclude if you usually shift gears at lower (under 2000 rpms) then try shifting at between 2800-3200 with a heavy foot and see if you notice any improvement.

As for compression test, you can still get it done just to be on safer side.

Most of the liana engines are misused earlier. So you can't determine optimum condition of your engine just by sitting inside car or by looking it, you need a test which is compression test.

And rest everything if bad will effect 1,2,3,4,5 all gears not just one but sometimes user problem definition is
Very confused so we always guide with broader spectrum of error elimination methods..

So my sincere advice is first go with the compression test and secondly change your driving trait like ahmed_11 said.

Yes brother you are right. My driving habit is same as you have mentioned. I obviously switch gears on higher rpm above 3000 as I'm unable to drive it with light foot. Liana is underpower so I think it's obvious that every Liana user goes above 2500 otherwise your car will take forever to gain speed. Bro why is this car underpower? I've seen specs of this engine and I find out that this engine is very capable and is more powerful than XLI than it feels so sluggish.

Yes I know Liana engines are misused earlier but in my case I've changed my engine a year ago with the same M13A which is in very good condition. As that engine was imported and was not used handled Pakistani mechanics that's why I can say that my engine is in good condition.

But still you can't orally say, cuz I changed my engine so it's in good state.

There are some parameters to look for while claiming this. Compression test is the number #1 parameter.
