Livestock(Farm House) Business in Pakistan

Hi Guys

I am been on Pakwheels for more than five years and reading all the threads created by you guys. A lot of guys here got good knowledge of cars. I been in UK for last 10 years and now I want to come back to Pakistan and want to set up Livestock new business in Pakistan. I just want you guys opinion regarding that what you think is it demand of Livestock (Cattle,Buffalo,Sheep,Goat).

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

If you own land in some remote area of punjab then its the most profitable business here. You just have to ensure that you hire reliable people to work for you otherwise it could cost you fortune just to raise a few dozen of cattles. We had done this on my uncle's farmhouse in sheikhupura so i can help you further in detail. Feel free to ask.

@fairleo thanks for reply I looked into that too. Retail price for poultry is Rs 130-Rs140 per kg and on the other hand goat or lamb is retailing at Rs 400 - Rs 450 per kg. Capital investment is less in livestock as compared to Poultry Farming
Controlled Environment. According to NBP report you looking to invest 25 million Pakistani rupees to start Poultry Farming.

Well that's my personnel opinion as I don't have any experience in both of the business. If anyone have experience of any of above business please do share with me.

@xain91 thanks man. What kind of cost we looking for the start up excluding land? How's your uncle's farm house running and what was the number of cattle he started his farm house from. We own few acres outside Gujranwala and we got reliable people who already looking after the land. I am interested in set-up cost.

In your case the initial investment would be buying cattles only. you can start with a dozen, thereafter the cost would be related to food only for whole one year (if you plan to sell them on EID). I am assuming that you have a shelter for animals to be safe from harsh weather plus boundary wall is must.

We own Poultry Farms in Hyderabad, Sindh. We were 1st one to open a Poultry Farms in 1965 in Pakistan, bought one day old chicks from PIA Shaver ...We were the suppliars to all the markets in Karach and Hyderabad, Now we do only 5 stars Inn's... Its not that easy , couple of time we lost over 100,000.00 chicks due to some kind of disease. When you want to do operation that big you got to make sur air flow and all the stuff that goes with it, its not that easy as you think...good luck

@portage1 brother Sohail nothing is easy now days. I been in UK for 10 years and trust me after living here nothing seems like difficult. I think hard work is key to success and then leave it to Allah.

that was the cost of that particular project. It was a business plan. And that also of a large scale farm.
But poultry to my knowledge can be started from as low as a few lacks ( or millions ) as well at small scale and slowly grown if you think its too risky.

To my knowledge, cattle, buffalo farming etc is riskier and requires larger investment for efficient scale and considering profitability, its not as profitable as poultry farming.

But I am assuming you have a fair amount of cash at disposal. So you can start any of these. If you have any questions regarding how these animals breed/reproduce/live , then ask(or hire) a professional vet and not just business people..

i m just thinking to start some small business with few lakhs and have come across idea of poultry business by reading on some thread.. we already have around 1200 square yard open land with boundry wall.. can anybody guide me if it would be feasible and what should be the minimum finance to start with?

AOA, I am thinking of starting a small scale cattle farm in or around lahore, tips, suggestions, advice is required. Cattle farming vs poultry farm which is more lucrative and which is more risky.thanks

Cattle farming is a good and less risky investment. I would advise you to buy some grown up buffaloes and few young ones. Do choose some of the good breeds. Full grown up buffaloes cost from 140k to 300k depending upon the breed and how well it is grown. If you have a good staff then you can make good profits. You have to keep an eye yourself to make good out of it.
