LJ78 - 1991 Land Cruiser

Bought 5 Door (1991) LJ78 (boley tu, PRADO). I am planning to keep it as per factory specifications. However, building it to meet all challenges of recent times.

Original parts replaces
1.All 4 springs
2. All four shocks (Toyota)
3. All 12 bushes (Toyota)
4. Lubricants i.e Transmission, Front Diff, Rear Diff, Power steering, Break Oil
5. Manual Hub Lock
6 Rear Springs with addition 100kg (approximately) lift capabiltities
7 Under body treatment with Rust-oleum (Rust reforcement and Truck Bed paint)
8 exhaust painted with Rust-oleum High heat primer and paint
9 Radiator cleaned
10 Inlet checked and found clean as well
11 Outlet OK

Front was all messed up. Greese was like MUD.

Repair starts with original parts. However I opted to go with Manual front lock.

Keep the lockers manual. The OEM are crap they fail all the time.
Also when buying the shocks please check for Japanese gas shocks i used them they were great. KYB gas shocks are nice too but I would really recommend bielstine

Manual lockers costed me 6k (used).
Bearing, grease, labour and locker costed me 20k.

you put the wrong grease in the birfs - this grease causes super rapid wear in them.

very soon this grease will become a shade of bronze or silver metallic paint as the birfield joint wears out rapidly. I have seen this thousands of times.

The correct grease is critical in this.

Last I checked toyota birfield joints were very very expensive.

For this one nlgi0 or 1, lithium ep moly grease (cv axle wali kaali grease), nlg12 also can work but it gets flung out to ball.

Nlgi3 is garbage, might as well put a bar of soap inside.

Toyota originally filled it with nlgi0 stuff (same as land rover oneshot grease). Its a semi fluid slumping grease.

But in service manual specify lithium with moly nlgi2, I have found that it can work as long as the 4wd is used often and the right quantity is used. I still prefer the semi fluid type or atleast cv joint one.
