Unfortunately, an engine knock cannot be fixed without opening it up and repairing it, whether due to worn rod bearings, excessive piston-to-cylinder wall clearance, or any other reason.
What I can tell you is that this engine is very resilient. The knocking sound has increased since (it's been 4+ years now and almost 200K kilometers mileage) to the point that I can hear it even when the engine is warm. I know some people would say now to go for an overhaul, but there is actually no reason other than just the knocking sound. The knocking sound almost goes away once the car is in gear and engine under load.
There is minimal oil consumption so far. There is no smoke in the exhaust, no misfiring, no power loss, and fuel economy is better than ever.
In this situation, always stay on top of the oil changes and try not to exceed 5000 kilometers on a single oil change, especially if driving in the city. You may stretch it out to 6k or 7k km if driving on long mostly.
