I was wondering is anyone of you out there also have a MB G-Wagen out there somewhere in Pakistan. I allways go through all the 4X4 blogs of Pakistan .. but never found one .. maybe once in a while I come accross one who was selling a skeleton of a G-Wagen with a Toyota engine. I have never understood why people replace a Mercedes Engine with a Toyota ..
I have owned this G-Wagen since 1985 and its a 1983 Model. In those early years as I was not familiar with the MB spare parts market of Pakistan so I used to buy most of the spares from Europe, they were at times costly but the biggest hassle was getting them to Pakistan. With a very limited bagage allowence it was at times impossible to carry anything by air but then there was no other choice either.
I ended up bringing a Brand New Diesel Engine and Transmission from Europe with PIA and payed them a huge amount for the Cargo .. 500 KG.
As years passed by and I found out that the MB parts were cheaper and available in Pakistan .. to my surprise some of them would cost pennies, compared to Europe. At times I would come accross New parts in Peshawer for one tenth the price and I would buy them even if I did not need them here and now. I ended up with a huge stock of parts ...
As I do not live in Pakistan so I have my G-Wagen standing in the Garage and when ever I come to Pakistan I take it out and drive around with it. Standing still it needs a lot of mainting to do ever time I want to drive around with it so its allways in perfect shape and I have never compromised with the Pakistani Ustad Short Cuts on repairs. OEM parts and my own tools and from the very start I have had only one Mechanic is is a gem of a guy and he knows my G-wagen and what we have done with it.
At times I think of selling it but never found someone as enthusiastic as myself .. someone who would own it and take care of it and not start popping Toyota parts into it and turn it into junk.
If there is someone who is interested .. please come and have a look at it and feel the ride ....
A MB G-Wagen is the Ultimate 4 X 4 Vehicle .. nothing compares to it ..... !!
Great and TRUE 4x4 you got there... For a layman, its difficult to maintain it in its stock form. so people put toyota parts so that they can find its parts anywhere in pakistan...I would say that this one is tougher than any 4x4 in pakistan in every aspect.
Nice Gelandewagen you have here. I assume you upgraded to the 5 cylinder 300 diesel? G Wagen owners are as rare as hen's teeth, and I am only aware of one person in Islamabad, and even he didn't hang onto it for long! Having said that, don't be in a hurry to sell, of you will face the typical uninformed maja gama offering you silly low money (and the risk of them adding Jap parts!). It may be better to advertise it the next time you visit the country.
@ Romano ... I live in Isbd. when in Pakistan. Whom did you know who owned one of these ... I knew a few but really dont know what happened to all of them .. in the late 80s there were about 10 of them in Isbd but they vanished and I never saw them again .. thanks to all those Pappoos and gamas who messed them up and put all sorts of fantasy parts in them ... I would say that its the owner who is to be blamed ... if you are sick you dont go to a butcher and when your car in not running you dont go to a Hakim Mechanic ... in both situations its fatal ... death is not far off .....
Great Ride u got there.

hi, my name is ibrahim khan. when i saw the pictures of your g wagon i really liked it and looks to be a jew. so do you still have it. if yes where is it standing so i can have a look at it. what r u asking for it?thanks
Nice ride u ve there
nice - there were a few in Karachi too, but they got butchered to the extent of people grafting land cruiser lamps onto them. A guy once asked me to service the front hubs - I quoted him genuine swivel seal prices to which he nearly fainted and drove it to death - I later came to know that truck got swapped with toyota diffs along with engine etc.
Nothing beats the G wagen

German national Gunther Holtorf and his wife Christine have completed an extraordinary feat. They travelled 900,000 km in a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a journey that came to an emotional end recently when the 76-year old parked his car for the final time at the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin. His journey has taken him through 177 countries and 884,000km (549,000 miles). It started back in 1988 when Holtorf quit his job at German airline Lufhansa. That year he shipped his beloved G-Class to the Sahara desert, crossing Algeria and Niger, ending his trip in Mali. The following years, Holtorf left his G-Class in Central and Western Africa, returning for several months a year to continue his adventure.
