Looking to buy a Toyota Surf (96-2002)

Hi, I'm actually getting the SUV/offroading bug and looking to buy a neat and clean Surf.
I have noticed a lot of them come with the 2.7l engine, although there are a few options with the 3.4l version.
Also, there seem to be a lot of amnesty scheme vehicles?
So primary questions are:
- is the petrol version better than the diesel version. I'm looking for a comprise between maintenance and performance as the car would be used only for light offroading?
- pros and cons of an amnesty scheme cleared vehicle?
- good options in the range of 2.0-2.2M?

2.7 is turtle. look for min 3.0 in either fuel. there is no harm in amensty vehicle verify the papers before financial transaction. actual chassis & engine number shall be as it appears over the registration papers.
