Looking to buy an 80 Series Land Cruiser

I am looking to buy a 80 series land cruiser in good condition and one without any body swaps. I am looking for good advice from learned members of the 4x4 community on this forum.

I have viewed some listings on PW. Is there a good workshop that does 4x4 specific inspections, which can assist me with the purchase. I am talking specifically a workshop that can provide input on if the LC has been bodyswapped, the condition of the mechanical components and confirming the authenticity of the documents.

I am group member of couple of whatsapp groups one of them is specially for jeeps. Every other day someone is selling some jeep like 80s, 100s, jimny’s, 3-doors, etc. etc.

At-least 10 of my friends are keeping 80s and they seldom use them, but sell them neither

As expected if it’s fun it will probably not be cheap.

To ans your questions,

Diesel or Petrol? Diesel (1HD-T unless advised otherwise by those more knowledgeable)
Manual or Auto? (Auto)
What is your budget? A good clean vehicle that’s fairly priced as per the market.
What would be the usage? Offroading. It won’t be the primary car.

As there are numerous listings in PW, Im actually looking for guidance on inspecting these machines. Especially documents and verifying bodyswaps etc as I believe I am not knowledgeable enough to spot this.

Mine was also 1HDT Auto. Its nice machine if previously maintained well with care. Got tons of learning about autos from its maintenance and repeated visits to workshops.

Whenever you come across an 80s which catches your interest, run its chasiss number on the website of www.toyodiy.com and verify those details with the vehicle physically.

It will give you idea either its body swapped or altered.

Some people body swap with same color. In that case, discussions are very long. Please follow the threads referred by waqas bhai.

Yes, love for 4x4 is active and has increased
Have upgraded, down graded, experimented with many 4x4s but no 80 at the moment

Well generally I believe that 80s is a serious hype. That its very solid vehicle, very durable, etc. etc.

Infact as per my experience, this is very heavy vehicle (over weight). More than 70% of the engine power goes to drag the vehicle. And its maintenance is next level headach

It believe its previous models like 60s LC is pretty hardcore for off-roading activities. But 80s has just too much body weight.
