Low Cruise Range in a Toyota Aqua 2014

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ‎‎! Guys I have recently bought Aqua G 2014 model. I have flushed its engine oil and got it filled with Profic-Car 0W-20 as per the recommendation of Car Manual. I got its new air filter, oil filter from Toyora Genuine Parts. I have observed and seen that either its a low pedal or heavy pedal the response in cruise range is almost same approx 636-660 km’s.

I have checked it with scanner the batteries are in their best health, no issue regarding starting of car etc, no error codes were discovered. I have been cleaning the exhaust blower of batteries regularly to avoid any heating issue. Also the spark plugs were cleaned and reinstalled back. Never got opened the throttle body.

Can you guys share any possible reason for the low cruise range? Atleast it should be doing +800 km in a full tank.

how many km your car have

1. Always go for a pump which you trust.
2. Idk about this but do get catlytic coverter check.
   I have been using Zic 0w30, those A+ oil and air filters of toyota and Alhamdulillah the average is between 22 and 23.

Yes I have been using the same pump since last 4 years. Yes catalytic converter is perfectly fine got that checked too. I am confuse when the batteries when checked via scanner they showed the output of 16.13 to 16.39 voltage on vehicle in start mode and with just the ignition on.

So I'm confuse if batteries are fully charging and are with so much good values with start and without starting of the vehicle then what would be the cause of this? That it gives so much low cruise range.

If we consider aqua giving 22-23 km/liter then according to simple maths it should be:

22 km/liter (average) x 36liter (fuel tank) = 792 km
23 km/liter (average) x 36liter (fuel tank) = 828 km

while mine gives total of 636km in a full tank. That's the confusing part.

First and foremost relax and take a deep breath. Now coming to your situation.. the fuel which you are filling is important. That is which fuel pump, and either normal or high octane? Try 60-40 ratio of normal to high octane at the next fill up. What Tyres(width, rim size) are you running? What pressure do you keep in them? Remember hybrid battery works at it's most efficient level when the temperature is moderate and at such high temperatures that we have in Pakistan the battery performance reduces. What average we're you getting in winters? Mine was 22-24 km/L. Currently I am getting 18-20 km/L in this hot weather(These figures are with an extremely hard foot) . My range was 850-890 km in winters and nowadays in summer it is 810-820km.But my spirited driving style kills the fuel economy Everytime.

I have a 15inch tyre which came stock with the car while I just rechanged the tyre with the same company and mention numbers on tyre 185/R15 something of Michellin.

Where as the pressure is concern it's 30 psi in all tyres. Fuel i haven't tried any other fuel then Attock Company Operated mostly (high octane) but from last 3-4 times i have been using the highoctane in ratio due to high prices of highoctane.

I have only concern about the cruise range that's very low for this. While the ODO meter shows 22-27km/liter on an average that's something like strange. I was thinking to go for spark plug change as I observe vehicle needs them in the last cleaning process the mechanic checked the pin it was almost near to the end may be that one of the reasons? As I have just cleaned the spark plugs once since I got the vehicle.

Fill your tank, mark your trip A or B to 0 and check till tank is empty, what average is your car giving in actual for full tank.

Tyre Pressure to be kept according to the manual. not actual (due to road conditions in Pakistan) but at least keep high in front then rear tires.

I have to get it check. I am near to a refill so I will get it's value for you. While the Scanner showed me that batteries were giving values of 16.21 to 16.39 in both ignition on and vehicle on (charging and discharging mode).

Like when I park the car at night it shows 26.4 km/l then in the morning when the car is being started the engine starts up automatically after few seconds of turning on the vehicle where it completes it's cycles and then during that the avg value starts to change sometimes it comes to 20 or 19 too then when the car is moving it starts to change.

is this reading shown on Trip A or B, or on ODO meter?

Yeah! I also noticed that the reading on Range and Total Odomoeter Reading changes from 0.0 to as per the foot during the ride for the specific time the car was turned on and to the next off.

Let me be very candid.
I dont know why we experiment 1st and then come for solutions. My advise is not to play with perfectly running cars.

You should never do;

1. List item

Clean the spark plugs.
The JDM cars come with Iridium plugs which do not require cleaning not gapping. Trying any such thing can damage the needle like tip and plug is a goner.

Flushing the Engine.
This is very controversial, especially when the car is only 45k driven.

Now what is the cruising range.
Aqua has a built in computer, which is constantly monitoring the Engine/ Hybrid system and continuously calculates the "Average" as both petrol and battery is being used.

When you press the display button you cycle thru different options, like "Avg xx km/l". This average is the best indicator as how your mileage is going. It can vary from say 20 ~ 27 km/l.

The crusing rage is calculated based on this average. Higher your average the longer the crusing range displayed.

Please note that this is mere stipulation, and if you get on motorway and start driving at 100kmh you will be surprised to see the cruising rage change as you average improves.

Actually the spark plugs doesn't needs the cleaning when the fuel is 100% original but unfortunately in Pakistan we don't have such companies which sells the original fuel just because of such the Honda 1.5 variant was stopped from manufacturing as it's catalytic converter gets choked on our regular and hobc fuel due to mixture of chemicals which are harmful for the vehicle.

I read that the cleaning spark plugs will help on a japanese forum I was searching but I have missed the link somewhere.

I also checked and observed that the spark plugs are near to be replace. Can you share any good quality spark plugs which are OEM real ones mostly the online are not exactly what they market.

Flushing The Engine:
It was the engine oil as I have didn't knew which oil it was having in Japan and if I continue the same I have to first wait and get it imported while the stickers on the car revealed that the car was just around 50km away from it's next recharge of oil so to get Profic-Car I have to get it done for a safe side thing.

Yes I will test it and then get back to you for any help. I haven't got a chance since last couple of months to get on motorway and drive it to test the average and range. Transmission oil is recommended to change at 40k kms

I got it checked it was perfectly fine.

Since the last refueling getting the average of 32.6 - 28.7 km/liter but the cruise range was the same as 636 - 616 km.

No idea what happens while everything else was perfectly fine.

I guess there is something magical which will be fix automatically one day

After refilling how much have you run the car ?
The range is showing 4457 Km with 8 Bars (according to your given value it has only run approx. 180
km.
