Lubricant Discussion- Engine Oil / Gear Oil

Salam,
For everyones info I have already checked owners manual and which grade of oils I can use.

I have a civic Vti prosmatec 1.6 with only 42,000Km. Last oil change I did I used Honda genuine 10W30 Semi-synthtic with no issues.
But my 2 mechanics tell me that I should be using 5W-30 specifically for this car.
So, I want to know whether I should follow advice of mechanics and use 5w-30 or continue using 10W-30 as both can be used as per the manual.

Don't worry about it. Use 0W-30, 5W-30, 10W-30, whatever is cheapest and matches the manufacturer's specifications. Just change the oil on time.

I have a Toyota Corolla GLI 1.3 from 2018, and since the very beginning, I have been using 10W-40 oil because I didn't have much knowledge, and it was recommended by some mechanic. However, I have now realized that this was a mistake because 10W-40 oil should be used for cars with over 100,000 kilometers mileage, whereas my Corolla has mileage only around 45,000 kilometers. I don't have knowledge about a good engine oil for my car and have turned to this forum to find an answer.

sir @hsandeep064 10W-40 is equally good and nothing to worry. That oil grade is in the list of oem recommended oil in the user manual. you may switch to 5W-30 engine oil choose brand carefully buy only from dealership or brand fuel station.

it is a jinx created by tin box mechanix that so & so grade oil shall be used for so & so milage engine. nothing as such

Hi all
I have Mira ES 2012/14, running smoothly for 2/3 years. I lived in Karachi for 1 year where it got rusted. Avg was 19 km/L. I used 10W40 havoline. Whenever I start my car , it makes so much noise, any reason for this? Moreover yesterday I changed oil to liqui moly 10W40, is it a good choice ? My car has crossed 140000 mileage.

0w20 or 5w30 is recommended as per owners manual. You'll destory your piston rings. Switch back to 5w30. As for the noise my 2008 mira has that too. Good oil changes, throttle body cleaning, fuel injector cleaning and replacing worn out spark plugs fix the problem.

sir @thahimS during warranty refer to user manual, there is a table which mention recommended oil 5W-30, 10W-40. stick to 5W-30 insist with dealership for reference to user manual page no xx.

Hello everyone
Just need a piece of advice i am using a united bravo recently and want an advice regarding its oil change currently i found a 10W- 30 from PSO in vehicle. I believe the owner was using wrong grade that's why recently i changed the crank sensor its what seems to me like following are the things to consider:
Model: 2022
Mileage: 18000
I am thinking to switch on Toyota 5w-30 or Zic

Kindly suggest a good oil company with the grade that should be used.

5w30 is fine. Synthetic or mineral any is fine.

Visited Honda Service Center today (Samnabad LOS road,Lahore Branch), told the technician whole scenario and he suggested me to use ZIC Hiflow 20w-50. He stated if you've been using this (20w-50 grade oil) for long and not sure about the brand either, continue using 20w50 else the car will start burning oil. He did not looked at the car and just gave me this recommendation.
Should I use it? If no what are your suggestions and should i go for synthetic oil or not?

Needed some help.

Model: 2018
59,600 kms done and oil changed every 5000 kms approx.

previously using Zic 10w40 and just changed to Shell Helix Hx6 10w40 at 59,550 kms.

Is this a good decision or should i switch from Shell next time?

He's not wrong, at this kind of mileage i don't think the piston rings will hold it on 5w40 or 10w40 oil. If you do decide to switch to that it'll most definitely burn oil and you'll have to keep pouring till it stops burning it or it'll keep burning and you'll have to switch back to 20w50. You can take the risk and try. Synthetic 5w40 is available. You'll find 5w50 synthetic but it will be expensive.

That mileage is nothing and if the car was being driven on the right oils for it like 5w30 you could have continued to use it forever. As long as the engine life is. High mileage does not mean change to a thicker oil at all.

But now that you have been using 20w50 it may have already messed up with the engine. It could be hiding and masking things which could lead to oil burning if you change to the “right” lighter oil.

If you want try switching gradually. Start with 10w40 synthetic.
