20w-50 is too thick switch to 5w-30.it will increase the mileage also..

I use 10w30 total quartz in my MT GLI 16 16,000 driven. I get 13 in city with light and heavy foot mix without AC and got , 17 in long without ac but with passengers and load on motorway at 130 kmh almost constant.

Oil doesn't improve improve economy nor reduce it .. can anyone post a link where this economy is given in percentage ... under 1% i already know .. meaning a car doing 10kmpl will do 10.1 max .. i'm pretty sure that no driver can judge such minor improvement on any type of digital meter

20w50 was a bad decision .. go as per manual or the next best option in manual
it must be
option 1 : 5w30
option 2 : 10w40

VVT in ur car requires thinner oil .. ideally zero weight oil .. in pakistan we use 5 weight oil (min).. so ideally its 5w30 for ur car .. but cars r performing good at 10w40 as well which is a bit heavier (viscous) oil .. 20w50 is again of double viscosity and choke the vvt system .. so simply not recommended

0w20 as recommended in manual is not used mostly because of hot climatic conditions .. though i want to study the effects in details .. so far i am also following the hearsay

Ur car is almost new. You can go for Mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic or any good reputed company. But make sure oil is genuine. U can also switch to 5-40 but i said ur car is almost new so stat away from Thick oils and Also stay away from Local mistry who has zero knowledge about such things.

Just to confirm. I am currently using LM super leichtlauf 10w40 in my corolla 2015 1.3 which is 20k driven. Although the recommended grade is 5w30 and 10w30. Should I keep using that grade or switch to the recommended grade?

Toyota 10w30 is good. Using it in my corolla 2012 with strict 5k kms drain interval. No issues.

10w30 and 10w40 both r good ..if u r living in a colder area use 5w30 in winters .. otherwise keep using what ur using now .

Thanks. Should I keep the drain interval at 5k because as it is synthetic according to most of the people here on pw they say that synthetic can last for 7-8k kms. This is the first time I have used any oil other than toyota. I strictly follow 5k kms drain interval.

One more question, how is 5w50 grade as compared to 10w40? For karachi environment. Toyota is also offering 5w50. I am not asking about toyota oil but asking about all in general.

Either ENEOS Sustina or Total Quartz 9000; 5w-30, API SN, Fully Synthetic oils.

Oil selection criteria

• type of environment (easily understandable from above chart)
• synthetic or semi synthetic or mineral : if u car engine is good, relatively new then synthetic, if it relatively old like 100k km driven then semi-synthetic is better
• the newer the oil the better it is(alphabets at the end dictate era .. like J is older then N .. N has better properties then J .. so an oil with end alphabets of SN is better than SJ)
• Brand are every ones own choice .. personally i am a caltex fan .. though i use shell in one of my cars and caltex in the other

i heard it from a good technical friend that viscosity properties change in oils by doubling its value

Meaning .. if an oil is 5w40 .. first turn over will be 5 to 10 then 10 to 20 and third 20 to 40
similary in 10w30 turn overs r 10 to 20 and 20 to 30
in 5w50 there will be an additional turn over

as a rule u avoid complex oils because these turn overs r created by means of chemical additives .. so a simpler oil is better than a complex oil

once again this i heard .. never verified on net .. overall i will either use 5w30 or 10w40 but not 5w40 .. dont ask why
