Thanks for the info bro. I am currently using 10w40 LM. I was reluctant to use 5w30 because most of the the replies I read on pw regarding this in which people says oil ki viscocity kam hai sahi lubrication nahi hogi wear and tear issues hongy idk. Recommended to yehi hai 5w30 ya 10w30. Warna I also found quartz 9000 imported oil on internet. Khair I hope 10w40 is fine. Car is just 20k kms driven

I don't know, at-least in my experience the oil viscosity has managed to increase and decrease fuel economy of the car.

Nups it will not damage engine.5w-30 is most common.. Newer engines wants thin oil for better performance.thin oil lubricates fast so no wear and tear in engine.

firstly refer to chart given in post #24 for usage of oil in ur area (environmental temperature)
secondly the viscosity of oil during normal operation is the figures in the end like for a 0w30, 5w30 and 10w30 the viscoity will be 30 when car reaches operating temp which it does in about 4-5 mins

so if u r using 10w40 and shift to 5w30 it isnt much of a difference .. go as per oem but considering ur local temperature as well (as refered to the chart)

Dear all... Well i studied a lot about the oil grades..
First 5w50 is better than10w40 with wide temperature adjusted lubrication.. And in pakistan where most of the year temp is hot.. Its better.
Most of the engine wear goes on when u start the cold engine and rev it up immediately... So let it remain idle for 2-3 min.. And then drive when engine temperature rises to optimum...
On the other hand 50 weight viscosity will have a good protection under extreme loads and ambient temp upto 50degree..
Now the thing i am unable to get is that people who claim 0w20 or 5w30 oil for new engines... What will happen to that oil in such high temp??
Acc to my knowledge it will get extra thin and cause damage to engine .. The argument against this is in mordern engines , the temperature of engine remains constant due to efficient cooling system.. But still variation of 5-10 degreees will still be there i guess
Now people say we are using 0w20 or 5w30 for 2 years etc.. The actual comparison can only be done if same engines use these two viscosities over the life of engine ...
If some automotive engineer is here, plz correct my knowledge if i m wrong..

Oil doesn't improve improve economy nor reduce it .. can anyone post a link where this economy is given in percentage ... under 1% i already know .. meaning a car doing 10kmpl will do 10.1 max .. i'm pretty sure that no driver can judge such minor improvement on any type of digital meter

20w50 was a bad decision .. go as per manual or the next best option in manual
it must be
option 1 : 5w30
option 2 : 10w40

20w50 is mentioned in pkdm gli manual. I would suggest the op to stick with that.

Dear 20w50 is ok .. But in comparison on logic.. If engine isnt consuming oil.. 10w40 is better.. And if brand new..5w40 or 0w40 is best..
Considering toyota .. They have 5w50 , being used and recommended in pakistan.. Technically.. 5w50 is better than 5w40..

Stick to 5w-30 fully synthetic for the life of car. It will be best for your car bro...avoid all 5w-50 options..its totally wrong grade for these cars

Thank for your information sir. I am also studying the manual which says 0w20 but its not suitable as you told due to hot climate. The manual is most probably for US. So if a car 1.3 Gli 80,000 km driven running in Islamabad and Peshawar area what you suggest? As I dont know the previous history of oil I concluded in winter 5w30 is food and in summers 10w30 or 10w40. Is this right?
