For high mileage cars 10w40 is perfectly fine, maybe not 15w40, but 10w40 is absolutely fine looking at the mileage of 2 Lac kms. Its perfectly normal to use xw40 oils in high mileage cars. In foreign countries Shell makes a high mileage oil with 10w40 viscosity for cars with that many kms on the odo.

I have used 10w40 couple of times on high mileage older cars and it worked perfectly fine with marginal diference in fuel economy compared to using 5w30 in the same car previously.

Also note that I said that if hes not having oil burning with 10w40 then he can switch to 5w30 or 10w30.

It hasn’t been running very long on 20W50, been 600kms. Was sadly misguided by the ustaads…🥲
Is it safe to jump directly to a 5W30…as many ustaads have been saying that it’s not and it’s too thin. Moreover could you tell me which grade does Toyota themselves recommend? Because I haven’t been able to find a pdf of a user manual or smth. Also would you recommend brands like Liqui Moly or Mobil 1 over Shell Hx6 that you’re recommending?

I’m afraid that is not accurate.

Who says to use thick oil as you ramp up KMs on the odo?!? 200k km is nothing, it is good to run 0w20 or 5w30 oil till the engine lasts. Maybe @Xulfiqar can help us understand why a 1 lakh or 2 lakh engine needs Gaarha tail ?

Unless the engine is already shot. Because someone decided to use thick oils and mess up the internals.

I’m afraid old owners might also be using the 20w50 oil as that is what desi ustaads tell people to do.

If your engine is already shot you will notice oil reduction, not BECAUSE you started using 5w30. A super thick oil masks oil burning.

You check oil burning by pouring in the required quantity with filter change. Measure oil when the engine is cold to establish baseline.

Then measure the oil level again after driving around 1000km.

If the oil level has reduced quite a bit on the dipstick it’s burning oil. If no burning check again after 2k km driving.

Do not go for expensive imported oils like liqui moly and Mobil1, can’t guarantee their authenticity. And authentic sellers locally providing API SP fully synthetic oils like Havoline, Shell Hx7 Plus, Total, Are good enough.

Btw is that 10km/L average within city?

If so that seems fine and expected. On motorway should get a bit more.

Oil burning means like lets say i change oil today and the level is at 2 dots on the oil dipstick (full level) but after a week or a month it becomes a dot, that means your engine is burning oil. However if it goes from 2 dots to 1 dot after lets say 4 or 5K kms then thats normal, and not alot of oil burning/

Bro 0w20 is not recommended in the owners manual for Corolla in both 2010 model and the latest corolla in pak. The recommended oil viscosities are 5w30, 10w30 and then 15w40 and 20w50.

Obviously 15w40 and 20w50 are way too thick unless you are experiencing alot of oil burning with oils like 5w30 or 10w40 then it makes sense.

Otherwise stick to 5w30 or 10w30 as per owners manual, but 10w40 is not bad either

Bro for a normal car like our corollas and civics or others theres no need for Mobil or LiquiMoly, its just unnecesary excess spending. I wont call it waste of money, rather just unnecesarry spending.

Shell and Total are good quality oils that give good performance, even PSO is quite good tbh. Just make sure u get oils whic have API SN or SN plus or API SP.

Same engines outside of pakistan recommend 0w20. It all comes down to availability of oils in pakistan.

Brother Mobil1 is here in Pakistan, you can order directly from them and I don't think there's any authenticity issue. LM also has an authorised dealership but can't really comment on that.

Check ownners manual for when to change oil and also check what type of ATF it says to use or what requirement of ATF it says to use.

Best gear oil is according to owners manual.

Aisin CVT fluid works well.

Post 2011 all suzuki kei cars have cvt's as standard. Putting standard auto atf will destory the gearbox.
