There are two types of Power
Continuous Power
Peak Power
Continous power ( is root mean square of peak power )
RMS or in other words WRMS ( Watts root mean square)
the Unit for Power is watts
peak power is just for fraction of seconds , mostly says just for Milli sec
Pioneer subs or any subs
400w is continous power ( watts root mean square )
1400W is its Peak power , that mean it can survive 1400Wrms for very very short internal of time
Wrms , rms all are same ( its also know as Thermal Power handling )
it means , you coil wont heat up much below this power
above it in 400rms ~1400WRMS , it will heat up instantaneously
which blow or even melt down your coils
1500Wrms , sub will die in fraction of seconds
