MAF sensor cleaning

Is it a good idea to clean MAF as part of preventive maintainance and will it improve fuel economy?
Also is there still any chance of damaging MAF while cleaning with all correct chemicals and methods and taking all precautions?

It's important part of fuel system and definitely you will feel the difference in idling and running after it is being cleaned. Clean the throttle body and air cleaner as part of the cleaning. If you are careful then no worries of damaging anything. Happy cleaning.

Can I use WD40 Contact Cleaner in place of MAF Sensor cleaner as its not available online

Only clean if you are getting an issue.
Check its value at idle, it should approximately give 1 gram/sec for 1 litre engine. For example my 1.3 L corolla engine gives around 1.4 gram/sec and i have no driveability issues. This is with no AC or other electrical.load.

Also its value shall respond quickly according to throttle.

Clean it with MAF cleaner and let it dry. All other cleaners can leave a residue and can permanently damage it. MAF cleaners do not leave any residue on MAF element service.

First verify with obd and then proceed.

Also consider air filter condition and vaccum leak before blaming it on MAF

I am getting very poor petrol mileage

Have you checked MAF reading using an OBD scanner. A lot of componenets can cause poor milage.
U need to investigate it properly.

What should be the reading for 1.8 liters at idle??

never use wd-40, to clean MAF.
only if the itch is too much to experiment only use carburetor cleaner let it dry under atmosphere. do not use any thing to physically abuse the unit.

It should be around 2 gram/sec without no load and car at running temp.

There is no itch to play with the car my only purpose is to get educated about car general maintenance bcoz I didn't see this job in Workshop manual

my Corolla was getting very bad AVG on petrol , i cleaned the MAF and things changed now. i clean it with Carburator Cleaner and AVG is very good now, the range is not coming down very quickly and Petrol needle is stable ! i bought 200 rs Carburator Cleaner and clean with it with Half of the Cleaner and then put it back !

pehlay mwri gadi ki range bht jaldi gir rai thi now its stable and needle also stable. aj hi kia hai yeh to i can not calculate it but i feel the difference. around 10 km pe agae gadi pehlay 5 pe thi i guess
