Even if you don't connect 2 output wires from ups it will still take neutral from ups because the charging input wire which comes to ups, has 2 wires and one of them is neutral.

But as the charging wire is thin thats why 2 output wires should be connected with ups (i did this myself on installation) and the resistance of the output wires should be less than the input charging wires or else the neutral load will go on thin charging wire.

yes you can connect neutral wapda + neutral ups this is how it should be done.
by double wiring it is meant that from ups output 2 wires will go to breaker box.
as i explained above.

many people just connect ups output to breaker box with one wire, in this case the load of ups will be on that one wire + one thin charging neutral wire.
as charging wire is thin so it is wrong.

Hi,

need some help understanding what happened to my battery, I am using Mercury UPS with Phoenix UGS-175 it was properly charging it and I was enjoying amazing backup from two years and I am properly maintaining it.

But yesterday UPS didn't give any backup for even a second I checked the battery voltage it showed 12.30 volts on multi meter but the moment I put some load (a small 6 volt DC fan) the voltage drooped to 8.9 volts (which is shocking) and now UPS is probably assuming it as dead battery and not charging it at all

This strange thing happened a month ago but after couple of days I was just trying to check the things by plugging and unplugging the battery cables and suddenly UPS started to charge the battery.

Today I tried to do that again but it didn't work this time.

Anyone knows what is happening here? How can an automatic UPS dropped battery voltage below 10.3 volts?

Was water properly managed all times ? Or voltages increase decrease ?!

Probably your battery is dear or some cells have died. Get it checked ot charged. 2 yrs is good life anyways. But it should do 1-2 more.

As mentioned above, most likely a cell is short.

Take it to a bettery shop, they have a load tester which can confirm the state of battery.

Secondly you can check voltage between two cells and it should be more or less the same. Dip the DMM probes in electrolyte (don't touch the plates) of two consecutive cells and keep recording the readings. In the end, all voltages should be near identical

Yes water was managed properly however just recently it started to consume a lot of water but battery was not getting hot and successfully attaining 14.2v and then dropping back to 13.8 for float, Water was dropped to dangerous level at least once during these days but plates were never exposed, I use 0 TDS water.

i can give you a small hint, once, battery starts to consume lot of water, then its a sign that's its going bad. you can do one thing, drain the battery, wash it with tab water (flush), do it multiple times with pressure, not more the 6-7 times and put new electrolyte in it and put it back on charging. pm me the results after. Although its late now as you should have done this the first time you noticed that battery is consuming more water. but anyway, this may help.

you should use pipe from home water valve to flush, don't take it to the service station as they have a very high pressure.
