If you empty a 20 liter bucket of water, how much will it take to refill again?.

The flow is what matters.

Depends from one UPS to another. Quick charge, I think, uses 20A and normal charge 10A. Rough estimates.

I have a 1 kVA ups, previously i was running it with a Exide 120amp-hrs battery but now my usage as well as the loadshedding has increased so the 120amp-hrs battery is not enough. I had a spare battery at my dad's office which is of the same specs,same brand and both were bought at the same time.The physical condition of the cells is also the same. Both batteries have 12.70 specific gravity. Now i want to install 2 batteries to my ups.

My ups is a local ups,it has 2 charging options: The first is LOW which charges the battery with 0-14.4 volts and 12 amperes.The second option is HIGH giving 0-14.4 volts with 22amperes. In summers when there is severe loadsheding then i switch my ups to high but it is very often.

Please guide me if my ups is compatible for 2 batteries, will it charge the batteries? As it is a 12 volts ups so my guess is that the batteries will have to connected in Parallel to keep the voltage same. Please guide me, thanks.

De-ionization process removes all possible salts, ions but not bacteria found in water through a process known as resin. So basically we want to avoid ions and salts in water so why is distillation any different as it does removes the both salt, ions and also bacteria. So what makes you think that de-ionized water is superior to distilled water. basically, once we are talking on context of batteries then bacteria does not says anything to the cells or we can ignore the bacteria factor in lead acid batteries. Only advantage of de-ionized water over distilled water in context to industry is that its cheaper to produce de-ionized water but I don?t know the detailed process of producing de-ioinized water that?s why never proposed anyone to prepare that at home.

Last thing, just wanted to inquire from you. Do you understand what distillation exactly is??? Distillation its self is an expensive and time consuming procedure. Do you think people at factory have funds and time to distilled the water first and then further try de-ionizations once first has already achieved the purpose in an expensive manner but most effective one.

You said, in your university tap water is already distilled. Let me speak and define you what distillation is. Distillation involves, heating the water and it changes its form into gas and then recapturing the gas and condensing it (cooling it) back into liquid. All your minerals will be left in your old container and what you will have a pure water with no minerals and free from ions.

Anyway these are lead acid batteries after all, if you have an access to any of the one and electrolyte is produced with it then you will be far better off than the electrolyte filled by the battery shops.

I fail to understand why people instead of accepting knowledge are so fond of criticizing, the concept of distillation is taught in primary school textbooks and i am a graduate engineer..It is simple vaporizing water and re-condensing it..Surely it will remove minerals and carbonates scale in water but when it comes to extra ions that is not the case..In chemical,biological as well as industry deionized water is preffered If these alternatives are not readily available distilled water is used., double distilled water can somewhat be near but not perfect.Distilled wate can remove carbonates and minerals but not cation/anions sodium, calcium, iron, copper, chloride, sulfate, and bromide which can be counted as impurities aswell. Deionized water is analytical grade water where as distilled water is every tom dick harry's battery water ..ANd wrt to my university we have mega distillation units which provide distilled water to our laboratories taps and their yield is quite good.Deionized water is expensive,better and is readily available at scientific stores..Rs 150Vs350 .For those who care about the lifetime of their batteries they are better off with using Deionized water as top up

28 Volts cutoff is perfectly fine.

Maximum allowable charging rate should be AMP-HR rating/10, which in your scenario is 14 Amperes.

All lead Acid batteries are manufactured using same processes, now if one company ensures a better quality then other then that?s a different scenario but otherwise they all are same.

If its designed to run for all the times then I think its doing its job perfectly well otherwise they are controlled by internal relays (closed once relay is not energized). In your scenario this relay can be a culprit. Anyway, this requires changing the motherboard which will be expensive so does not matter live with it till this fan will die.

One scenario can be that fan is connected in a wrong way by the local electrician therefore remain on for all the times. Can be easily corrected, just ask the UPS guy.

 I have local UPS which is sold in every shop in Pakistan. Fan is of bad quality and died after the first month. UPS has never created a problem so never bothered to diagnose it further.

Yes, you can connect two batteries with this UPS system in parallel. Remember that you don?t want to make it 24 Volts system but stick to 12 Volts system.

For that

Connect Positive terminal of one battery with positive terminal of second battery
Connect Negative terminal of first battery with Negative terminal of second battery
Connect of the positive terminal of batteries with UPS positive wire
Connect of Negative Terminal of batteries with UPS negative.

Stick to 12 Amperes charging option.

Battery will lose its charge, Will develop sulfate crystals, which will be hard to be broken if remained in discharged state for longer duration.

145 AMP-HR battery ---------> maximum allowable charging rate : 14.5 Amperes

175 AMP-HR battery ---------> maximum allowable charging rate : 17.5 Amperes

but don't use it simultaneously on one UPS system.

sodium, calcium, iron, copper, chloride, sulfate, and bromide are responsible for producing cation/Anions. These fall under the category of minerals which are removed by distillation. Kindly present some references so that I may be able to modify my knowledge base.

Thnx talha bhai for your help, but i adjusted the amperes to 10Amps for my two 140AH batteries is it ok or should i change to 12,14.
