Maintaining UPS/car batteries

Today i got my electrolyte delivered home from pyro chemicals.24 bottles of 500ml in just Rs:740 at my door, free delivery.i still gave him extra 150;)
and i asked him about other cities and he said that they can arrange that.and gave me this number 0320-4729119
So our friends at other cities now can get this at their homes:) So this summer when you buy batteries for your UPS dont use battery wala's electrolyte,instead use this perfectly prepared from Pyro chemicals Model Town Lahore.
Today i will flush my batteries and pour this into them.
One thing i have to ask that i have noted in winter loadsheding is less.i calculated from voltmeter that during 1 hour loadshedding my battery volts dropped from 12.7 to 11.8. So i was thinking why charge the batteries extra to cut of of 14.3 volts(for 140 am battery) when they can hold just 12.7 max.so i changed the cutoff value to 13 volts.and adjusted charging to very low settings i.e. 5 amps to elongate battery life.
So my question am i doing right?

does your ups keeps the voltage at 14.3 all the time while charging? as far as i know, ups starts at lower voltage and keeps going up slowly. More experienced person can tell better but i think 13v is not enough. UPS will cut off as soon as it hits 13v and at this stage battery is not fully charged... 13.7 might be a good voltage.

You can keep the voltage even at 14.1/14.3 if you reduce current (in fact thats better)

The battery's full charge state is of course ~12.7 but why the cut-off is 14.3? because you need a high potential on charger side to push amps into the battery. I don't think 13v will be able to pump enough amps required for full battery

its normal, when load is applied on battery, initially volts drop significantly later the drop rate depends on how much current you are drawing.
You uploaded the video but i am not sure what is it showing (apart from volts dropping slowly)? I mean was the light gone in video? was the battery full initially? you said it holds at 12.2v but the video shows it was 13+

Kindly ask them for their full address so that I may post the contact details and official numbers by editing the main thread.
Always set the cutoff voltage to 14.0 Volts, you can also keep it at 14.2 but to be on safe side 14.0 will do fine.

Just like once you go to CNG stations, then in-order to fill your cylinders up to 220 bars, their cylinders needs pressure above 500 bars in-order to do so.

Same is the scenario with batteries that cutoff is set to 14.2 or 14 Volts so that your batteries gets properly charged. Voltage on battery terminals will drop to 12.5 to 12.6 Volts after sometime, that’s nothing to get worried about.

Later once you will put load across it then it may drop it 12.3 or 12.2 Volts and will remain there for sometime before batteries starts to get discharged.

Once, this voltage hits 10.5 or 10.3 volts then you need to shut down your UPS by adjusting the variables on PCB board. If you won’t do it then dragging the terminal voltage below this will damage your batteries.

Thanks for all.it mean my batteries are Ok while making this video the light was gone and i increased the cuttof volts to 14.so in video the reading was starting from 13.it was soon after the Ups fully charged them and tripped.

Ab abhi tak battery waloon say pooch hi rahay ho. When I told my friend about flushing he did the same thing and asked the battery shops they said kay battery farig ho jai gee kuch nahi ho ga nai lay loo or mazay karo. I told him its your money do whatever you want to do and guess what he flushed his battery and believe me the backup increased from 15 minutes to 2 hours and another thing is that the electrolyte was prepared by battery wala imagine what could have happened if he had used pure electrolyte.

I find it hard to explain that’s its number of factors which affect the gravity and backup time. Did you check the “cut of Voltage” and did you verify the “charging rate”. How was the quality of electrolyte you poured after flush, was it same dirty electrolyte from battery shop.

What was originally wrong with your batteries, if it was because of undercharging then sulfation crystals would have been formed which is hard to be broken. Flush under these circumstances is not very effective if it all happened because of sulfation.

First thing you need to do is tune your UPS and see, if it resolves the issue. flush is not blindly performed, you need to first see if all the cells are ok or not. If one is dead then no matter what you will do won’t bring that back to life.

i have prepared electrolyte with distill water and one of cell was dead which i have repaired by battery wala. after repair it was good for one week as i perform flush the halth of my battery gone bad
and i use charger for charching adjustable AMP and VOLT i have tried every way which can possible

The backup time has increased,but its winter so cant tell exactly how much,and the load shedding is just 1 hour these days.do flush if all cells of your battery showing same gravity,if either one is bad than no need to do so.

Yea i checked battery cells gravity with the hydrometer they all perfectly giving same gravity i-e 12.2. As summers are approaching should i flush by now?? One thing more my battery is AGS 165 around 1 year and 7 months old.....

I need to know numbers, is it 28 Volts or what and secondly charging rate is controlled from UPS and that’s the best method I know to charge the batteries otherwise its lot of hassle and you require AMP-Meter in order to read that figure. How old were the batteries, its AMP-HR ratings, ratings of your UPS.

And how did battery guy able to repair one cell. Did he opened the batteries and got the cells replaced. I don’t know of any magic which can repair a dead cell.

You need to put voltmeter on battery terminals and read the voltage on battery terminals once batteries are about to be drained(Load shedding). See, if voltage on battery terminals drops rapidly below 10 or not. Compare it with other battery to look for a dead cell. Also look into variation in C.G between different cells. If all cells have same number then its likely a problem with charging rate or cutoff and variation will highlight a problem with a dead cell.

Kindly speak in terms of numbers next time otherwise its very difficult to draw conclusions.

What should be charging rate for max battery life? My batteries are always destroyed in 1 year.
