Maintaining UPS/car batteries

So far I cannot find an answer to the million dollar question.. How and from where to obtain pure battery acid so that one can prepare the electrolyte.
So far no shop in pindi and islamabad is ready to sell it.. All that they sell is 1250 gravity mixture prepared with toti ka pani.

If any one from isb / pindi has any knowledge about its availability do let me know

I bought this voltage and ampere display and attached it to my UPS, so can keep an eye on charging current and battery voltage. It's quite useful. I also plan to add a sensor to monitor battery temperature.

Can someone experienced narrate the proper procedure to flush a battery already in use and some pointers and tips on which brand electrolyte to use after flush ???

To be more specific, none of the shops I know sells the electrolyte prepared with distilled water. I have given an address of a supplier based in I-9, Islamabad who sells de-ionized water @Rs 9 per liters. Buy de-ionized water from him, buy your own clean plastic container and take it to a battery shop and ask him to prepare the electrolyte using the de-ionized water in it. This is the best you can do and that?s what I and most have been doing on this forum.

I have gone through the entire thread and have understood many things.

Now the problem is that my UPS is charging the battery with very high Amperes. I checked it was a meter (i own one) and it shows 40 Amperes!! Now i know these are very high. My Battery is AGS 165 AH.

I also understand (after going through the thread) that my UPS kit is F-72 and does not have the screw to adjust the charging amperes, instead the wire from the transformer would have to be changed. Hence i am posting all the pics, please tell me where to adjust the wire so as to get the right charging ampere

First measure AC input volts, if volts are Upto 230 then your Battery cell is weak too

In Lahore pyro sells top quality prepared electrolyte. Don't know if they send to other cities or not.

Great, this is little bit even confusing for me, can be sorted with AMP-Meter, kindly point it out which wire has to be taken out and inserted at a different position.

I would advise him to go to the ups technician, ask him to change the charging rate, this way he be able to see which wire has to be taken out and inserted at different location. UPS which I have has a slightly different configuration where one adjustable wire comes out so its kind of easy to insert it at different location. Ups should be completely disconnected from wapda and batteries while this is being done and any wire if connected wrongly will blow away either the ups card or transformer so its better to consult an technician for the first time.

He is using AC settings to measure DC readings, which always is going to be in error. I would advise him to buy a good meter and take the readings again using DC settings.

dear Talha i flushed my seven months old ups battery. blacks deposits were coming out of battery when i started flush. i intended to do it 5 to 6 times as mentioned by you, but heavy black deposits continued to come out in considerable quantity so i kept flushing it and i did it 25-30 times before pouring new electrolyte in it. some black deposits were still coming out but i stopped flushing after that. did i do right or i have loosed the real capacity of battery.

Why you flushed only 7 month old battery? Was it gone bad so early?

haha black deposits like Tar? Your battery must have been heavily smoking. check krna sutton ka dabba na gir gya ho andar

20-25 times is way much and I fear that that may not damage the active lead plates, that’s why I advised about 5-6 times or maximum go till 8-9 times. Rest, why did you feel the need to flush your 6 month old batteries, normally if batteries were prepared with good electrolyte and charging device is properly adjusted then this should be done once in two years as entire purpose it to prevent shorting of internal cells by removing the deposits which will sit at bottom to form a layer which may short the cells or between two cells.

Because of bad electrolyte made with tap water by battery shop wala. I poured pyro electrolyte after that. battery caps also started to get black.

meter which you used only measures AC current while you are trying to measure DC current. readings which you will get will never be right. try to buy this one.

observe the backup time and compare it with what you had previously. anyway, i still think, backup time will be improved but you never know.
