Maintaining UPS/car batteries

charger is shwong battery 100 % charged and is not pumping any current.. but sg of 5 cells is between 1200-1240 but one cell is below 1100 sg... this cell has never registered sg above 1150 after flush.. please advise..

i have removed all of its electrolyte to another cell and taken 1200 sg electrolyte from other cells to this cell.. but still same result..

my charger starts after every few minutes and its fan noise is unbearable..

how can i get the sg to full 1260 ?

Today i tested my Volta 195AH battery which has completed its 36 months MA without any flush, it gave a reading of 13.88V is it ok?

Backup with 4 fans 4 lights was 3hrs. The gravity is 1150. Acid was prepared fresh lab grade acid with pure distilled water three years ago.

Old volta's are great. My car battery lasted 3.5years. I have another 120something lying in store, it is disconnected for a year now and still terminal read 12.3v. Should i sell it or keep it in case in might need it sometime later? @talhawaleed

But recently osaka and volta coming in market are not upto standard. I went to buy a new car battery, he tried 3 osaka batteries but none of them worked (even new) so in the end he installed phoenix and without any charge it started the car. I wasted 1.5 hours that day in 3 osaka batteries (20mins initial charge to each). Currently i have phoenix with ups and it works great

AGS Exide Volta FB are good brands just need to prepare them with fresh 1250SG lab grade acid with distilled water and see if battery doesn't last 3 yrs. All of my batteries when they got useless had 3-4 yrs of service.

Battery: 2 x 145 Ah Phoenix

Batteries are 14 months old, and recently in last few days when loadshedding almost stopped i noticed that UPS was always charging the batteries which resulted in hot batteries and requiring to refill the water just after few days. So i disconnected them at the moment.
I guess batteries are not able to reach their cut off voltage now so UPS is just charging and charging even when they are not being used.
Time to buy new set?

So replaced the old XP145 set with XP160R and everything back to normal. It stops charging happily now when batteries are full.

XP145 lasted 14 months.
While previously Phoenix 135 served for 12 months, and Phoenix 125 lasted about 10 months only.
Guess i need something like XP200 at least if i want to last it for 2 years on given load.

Also can anybody give some idea about XP vs UGS series??

Batteries dies, if you leave the disconnected from UPS. 12.3 Volts is not a parameter which tells anything about battery life. Fully charge the battery and then perform a load testing on it using load tester from battery shop.

13.88V is a reading which you must be getting while ups is charging the battery. once batteries are fully charged then perform load testing on it using the meter from battery shop.

while other symptoms, which points towards a developing problem can be reduced backup time, etc and this battery is old, i guess properly lived its useful life otherwise once you start experiencing a reduced backup time then that's a right time to perform flush and fill it back with lab grade electrolyte.

all i can say, that year is a very less time for battery to die. try a good quality electrolyte as mentioned in the thread.

I couldn't see the same volta i have in market which has orange cover. Would go for AGS 175 this time and see what's the result because i have tried 3 volta's till now all were above then my expectations and all were used for more than 2.5-3yrs people here dump off battery after 10 months or 12 months

UGS brand of phoenix is up graded series with thicker plates, suitable for use with UPS. while XP series is normal with thinner plates,suitable for cranking engines easily.
For UPS UGS series is best

Does it really matter, you just need to look into the AMP-HR ratings and a battery manufactured properly. Rest depends upon your electrolyte and charging device. Old products gets replaced by new model numbers but they all are lead acid batteries.
Maybe, I would have opted for phoenix ugs grade batteries.

You are right.
For full home usage, need around 200amp batteries to perform decently. May be next time, i'll go all out and get UGS215 pair.
Small batteries give up way too early. Then there is 14 hour load shedding in summer so batteries gets hammered pretty bad here, that's also the reason of batteries dying early.
