Maintenance cost Mehran

After going through various posts here on pakwheels, i finally decided to go for work that was pending on my Mehran 98... BUT it proved very "COSTLY":o... knowing mehran is least expensive car to maintain.:S

Both Axles were giving clacking sound on turning & also at times while driving straight. Bearing on both front wheels were also damaged. Brakes was also not good enough..

I made my car inspected at 3 axle shops.
First at nazeer engineering works at lucky star as recommended by Xulfiqar, he quotes 6500 for replacement of axle, steering rod (kabli) and installation of bearing (bearing has to be provided by me).
Second at axle shop near plaza he quotes 6000 for same work.
Finally at shahjee saddar quotes 4000 for same. looking on less cost I decided to do axle work from there.
shahjee apparently changed:
Both Axle kabli (3 month warranty)
Khainchi bush
Balance rod bush
Repaired:
Steering rod
Ball joint
Reckend
Tie rod
& Installation of bearing.

Same day after axle work i felt tire was not moving freely... I showed this to shahjee he told it will get free in 2-3 days, but i had feeling that something was not right, next day I took car to my mechanic he informed that brake is not loosing tyre grip. He also informed that axle seals are leaked & steering screw was slipped free (inside bonnet). Mechanic did the brake work, changed all tyres brake show, pad and pipe also installed bearing on back wheel. I took car again to shahjee next day he (apparently) changed seal and fixed the steering screw moreover apologized for the mistake.

The following are cost breakup:
Bearing Naachi (2 front wheels) 1300
Axle work 4000
Petrol switch installed inside bonnet (landi renzo) 1000
Self work (garraee broken) 700
Brake accessories (2^nd grade) 1500
Wheel bearing china 250
Mazdoori (brake work & others) 500
TOTAL COST 9250

Can anyone answer following?

Still wheel alignment/balancing and tuning have to be done…….:-# How much it cost?

How long all these work last????:S

Is this normal for car like mehran to be this much expensive??

firstly - if you choose shah-jee to do your work, you have already booked yourself to spend enormously. Nazir (old guy) works best of them all, his repacked axles shafts are not welded to the spider inside the joint cup, its locked with a circlip in groove (like the factory) - and no bolts etc are ever cross threaded etc.

6500 for a pair of axles and steering work is not expensive by todays standards and Mehran is not a cheap car to maintain as people think.

well yes it can be but Axels are expencie a bit and my advise change the CV joint and the Cross in the axel the rod has to be the same as new axels most of the time are repaired ones so change the one end to Cross and the KUPPA will be cross one i think with Kuppa and cross are about 750 Kabli and CV joint a set good ones are for 2200

the Kabli sterring box is for 1600rs
chimtay Swing arms 800 a set Kabli
genuine front hissa bushes 400
brake lathers 400 SK brand
genuine barring is i think 800 a wheel
and yes some time back 2 weeks ago i did work on my 02 mehran and with cost and mazduri bill went upto 10000 as i did change all stuff repaired none
so due to mehngai its also not a cheap car to keep
regarding how much it will last
well last year i change sterring box and chimtay and they went upto 1.5 years max
so ur car will remain problem free for at least 2 years except its a mehran and mehrans are sasta roye bar bar

well dear...always go for the most reliable mechanic, NOT for the cheapest mechanic..as u did and ended up paying far more than the initial estimates.
secondly, alignment/balancing etc wont take more than one hour at maximum....Balancing on average costs you around 600...i have done balancing of my Mehran wheels twice...and twice it took me between 600 and 700 on every occasion...and alignment costs u Rs. 100...add another 100 if u got to do camber etc too...!!
and remember....we pakistanis believe in hear-say alot...the word on the street is that Mehran is an economical car since its cheap to maintain...(compared to the expansive Civic, Vitz, Corolla etc).......however, dont forget that its parts cheapness notwithstanding, Mehran wud have to visit thrice or more a workshop for every single visit by civic/vitz/corolla, in the same period of time.....Translation: though Mehran parts are cheap to purchase but they are far less durable hence faster to wear out than the apparently expensive yet durable parts of corolla/vitz/civic etc....i hope it makes sense

Its on your left - on the road immediately before the spike that goes towards shahrahefaisal and saddar. The trick to get there is to turn towards saddar from the road you are travelling and then turn onto the oneway where Nazeer engg is located. The shop is in a little lane that is littered with motorcycle mechanics.

PW Member has a 93 Lancer with 1800cc Galant engine which people call an expensive to maintain car BUT! he has been like very very frequent to the mechanic whereas a friend of mine who '04 Mehran is found at the mechanic every fifteen days.

And the cost is not cheap either. Lancer's complete new set of axles: 4k PKR. Mehran outer cv joints: 1500 PKR.

Time spent at mehanics shop: 10:100. (Lancer goes 10 time when Mehran is going the hundredth time.)

^^ that is what I fail to understand with our people - what good is a cheap item if you have to buy it 10 times compared to buying a little pricey item once.

well mehran is also expensive to maintain cause of frequent visit to workshop. but some mehran's going pretty well when they are new but after some time when car getting old then be ready for frequent visit to work shop.

I will go and find out, the problem is that from last two days i feel some sound from the bearings, because i check it by running the car of straight road at above 50 km speed and than neutral it and turn off the engine so i check either sound coming from Engine or Wheel.

I believe Axel are ok because on turning i never hear any sound.

If its a continuous sound at specific speeds then its the bearings. Bearing sound is like a goonch. Inner CVs on driveshaft can also produce noises but they are mostly like tuk tuk followed by liil vibrations.

Yep it is continuous sound at certain speed, it does not produce any sound upto i think 20 - 25 km but after that gradually increase with constant sound.

It is not tuk tuk sound it is like

so i think it will be better to replace it with some japanese bearing NTN or NACHI or SKF (France I believe)

I agree with you but i think after 10 days on mechanics is good.Roz ka rona hai mehran even new hi q na ho.

after all these work mechanic told me that ur car's front shocks not working
front shocks kabli 4500
mazdoori 500
then mechanic suddenly discover that self not working properly...so therefore need service. 700 fot service. and then danter came and told me that car is getting rust so i put coating all over down the body it cost 1200...
now see i went for axle work and how many more tjings come out.....mehran is not a cheap car to maintain
