Manual Transmission Overhaul for Toyota W58

Hello PW ,,,,,, this thread will be related to manual 6 speed rear wheel transmission ,,,,,,,, i have recently overhauled a transmission box , so though to share with you guys here ,,,,,,,, comments and suggestion are always welcome ,,,,,,,

ok so the said transmission is toyota W58 ,,,,,,, fitted in my nissan D21,,,,,,,,, above pic is its actual but old pic ,,,,,,, have done every thing in a hurry so could not save some initial pics,,,,,,,,,,

first thing is to get the repair manual printed copy ,,,,,,, hard copy is always batter then soft one ,,,,,,,,,

another important thing is this bracket ,,,,,,, i custom made this to pull the trans out from vehicle ,,,,,, excuse my poor welding skills but at the end this tool done its job very well ,,,,,,,,

well it has lot of issues ,,,,,,,,, 1st gear slips and we use 2nd gear to move the vehicle ,,,,,, 3rd and 5th gear gave grinding noise during engage , means synchronizer rings are bad , output shaft main bearings are also lose ,,,,,haven't checked the cost yet as project is not yet completed ,,,,, mileage ,,,,no idea about it as vehicle and old and passed on to me by previous owner , couple of year before i overhaul its engine and since then it already covered more then 55K ,,,,,,

dismantling started ,,,,, lot of gunk ,,,,,, i was expecting lot of metal mesh but luckily not seen,,,,,,, keep record of each and every part ,,, taking digital pic is best option ,,,,,,,

lot of effort needed to clean all this mess ,,,,,,,,cant read any thing unless each and every part is dead clean ,,,,,,,,

Acetone in boiling hot water will be your soltto dissolve all of this greese I use that solution to service the engine when I rebuild them.
10%acetone and rest of the water will do the job in good 30 min

disassembled and washed ,,,,, empty this output shaft after cleaning ,,,,,,,,,need pullers to pull the gears and bearings ,,,,,,,,

thats the input shaft along with 4th gear with synchronizer ring and 4th and 3rd gear hub sleeve ,,,,,,,, will replace the main bearing as it has excessive play ,,,

counter 5th gear with its clutch hub and hub sleeve ,,,,,,,,,

3rd gear with its synchronizer ring,,,,,,,,, the remaining 2 left in output shaft are 1st and 2nd ,,,,,,,,,

out put shaft ,,,, on right side are the 1st and 2nd gear and on left is the 5th gear along with a roller bearing , sandwich between these 2 is the main bearing and the pain plate which holds every thing ,,,,,, at this step i have to take help of a hydraulic press at machine shop ,,,,,, 5 gear is tightly pressed on out shaft along with the roller bearing ,,,,,, unfortunately i haven't save pic at machine shop ,,,,,,,

thats how every thing fits in ,,,,, input shaft and output shaft ,,,,,, counter shaft is in background ,,,,,

out put shaft after pulling the 5th gear and roller bearing and main bearing ,,,,,,,, 1st and 2nd gear will then be pulled out along with there hubs and synchronizer rings ,,,,,, in this pic below only the 2nd gear is left in output shaft along with its synchronizer ring and clutch hub and hub sleeve ,,,,,,,,1st and 2nd share same clutch hub and hub sleeve ,,,,, and so do the 3rd and 4th ,,,, while 5th gear has its independent clutch hub and hub sleeve ,,,,,,,,

every thing pulled out ,,,, you cannot hammer them out ,,,,,, need pullers or hydraulic press ............
