MAP sensor vac port broken :(

engine is 1st gen 5afe.

Red arrow points to the metal pipe on the back of intake where map sensor vac line is connected. that metal pipe has broken off...

Green area is the nipple to which fuel pressure regulator is connected, i have made a T- here and put the MAP sensor on it alongwith the FPR.

both the broken off port, and the FPR vacuum port are approx. the same size.

1. Any pros/ cons? Can i keep it this way?
2. If i had to fix the broken port, is there any way to do it without taking off the whole intake manifold?

just block the original port with epoxy and use the teed off port from the FPR

First the engine is question is the 3rd Generation 5A-FE and secondly...............

correct just block the old one with "magic depoxy" (Epoxy) and if you are concerned about multiple vacuum sources get or make a multiple vacuum manifold.

great for FPR's,BOV's Boost gauges, boost controller references.........and many more things which require a good vacuum source.

my only concern was that whether it would make any actual difference if the MAP port location is shifted like i've had to do in my case....

next few pics show the situation, and like all experts suggested, the last pic shows its been sealed off with epoxy....

i thought there were only two generations of 5AFE? I think mine is 1st gen but i dont know for sure. During the swap, throttle body was changed until i got one in good condition. Its possible the intake manifold was also changed as well.....

How to know which one it is?

just block the previous the new one should be ready for the reading am not good atg toyota but i guess this one came into corolla 2 and were autos only my assumption is from the intake mani

and have addressed the generation issue quite quite some times on PW but once more here its is in picture form so it is easy to remember.

the only sure way to know is to look at the part numbers but they are easily exchanged so the surest way is to tell by the engine number.

if you can post your engine number I can exactly tell you when and where (which factory: Sendai plant or the TOYOTA CITY PLANT) was the engine manufactured.

one thing i've learnt while dealing with old cars...if something isnt bothering me, i shouldnt touch it (becoz everytime i fiddle around needlessly, something or the other breaks lol)

Hmm in 2nd gen you can easily change that port. Usually they broke it during handling.. Pic is not clear the black part is the port

firstly the ECU 89661-1A120
was manufatured from

meaning that this ECU is from a second generation AE100 (5A-FE) M/T

secondly the main differences in the 3rd generation were the newly redesigned intake manifold which promoted more mid-range torque than High-rpm power because of the elongated and somewhat restrictive runners and a changed plenum, this lead to a lower requirement of fuel in the RPM range so the Nippon Denso yellow 2nd gen (fat) injectors 176cc/min were replaced with the (thin) 3rd gen injectors Grey 155cc/min, this promted for a new ECU and a new ECU map(which sacrificed high rpm fuelling for midrange torque) and the rev-limit was also lowered furthermore the exhaust manifold was also changed with a slightly less restrictive tubular on and the downpipe was also reconfigured...........small but nonetheless noticable changes.

^ Thanks for the gr8 info. I got 2nd Gen 5AFE and replaced two leaking yellow injectors with grey ones as yellow are not available here.

BTW this means 3rd gen will be more fuel eco than 2nd gen..

The ecu i asked you about is kind of old style big one i am currently using.

I used 89661-1A440 but that was giving me eratic idle.
