Too many opinions and too few facts.
- The TX8 is a car in the mould of the BMW 3 series coupe. A family car with the heart of a sports car. It is available in three basic versions with some trim differences and I have seen all of these in Lahore and Karachi.
Fact 1. It is 1308 cc but that does not count for anything as it is a rotary engine and not directly comparable to the piston engines
2. The Auto version produces 190 bhp or 200 bhp if you believe some people. The 5 speed also produces the same power. The 6 speed S version produces 238-240 bhp.
3. This is a car for handling rather than out and out power.... and has been given accolades for its handling on the limit and easy controllablity.
I have driven it and like all three versions. The fastest RX8 I have driven is a modified one in white with a GREDDY turbo kit fitted. The problem with this car was that it was almost undriveable with its hard suspension etc... modifications there too.
This is the car for you if you want to fit a couple of friends in or if you have a small family.
Prices. and here I am not kidding you. Dont believe the dealers.... The price for an auto without leather should be not more than 1.3 million Rupees.
...........The price for the 5 speed manual is about the smae and for a fully loaded 6 speed max 1.6 million 2003 model car. This includes dealer profit as well.
Duty and transport/TR/clerance/insurance total is 5 lacs 50 thousand. A 5 speed and auto can be obtained for 1.3 million yen.... Make your calculations.
As far as the comparisons go with the Evos and the 350Zs. The EVO is one of the technically brilliant cars ever.....but its forte is also going around corners. It has yaw sensors, dive sensors etc etc It does go like a bat out of hell in a straight line as well. Believe me even an Auto version that I drove recently went like shit off a shovel. Bone shaking ride though but with four doors and therefore appealing in Pakiland. The one thing I like about this car is the classlessness. It with leave a Ferrari 430 for dead even in the hands of an average driver. Price for beating a Ferrari Max 1.7 mill-1.8 mill for a late EVO7
The 350Z is a modern classic but difficult to drive in our conditions. Difficult to see out of and claustrophobic. Price 22 lacs for the best
I tested all three and guess what I got instead . A Mazda RX7 twin turbo with grunt, handling, looks.... arguably amongst the most beautiful cars ever. Fits like a glove, goes like stink
