any simple way to check clutch plates?

Park on a steep slope with nose up. With a bad clutch when you try to drive further up the slope the engine RPMs will rise but effective power will not be delivered to the wheels.

Technically speaking there is one friction plate and one pressure plate - the both of them combined are called "clutch" - over time the friction plate was called "clutch plate"

clutch plates (multiple) are found in wet type setups like motorcycles or automatic gearboxes (or in aftermarket setups for high power cars)

Bhai Jaan Mere Pass Suzuki FX Hai. 1986 model abhi 2 din pehle main ne mehsooos kia k gari ka 1st 2nd yani k aage wale gair lag jate hain lakin wo chal nahi rahi buhat slow slow chal rahi hai. Lakin jab main ne usse Reverse Gear main dala wo pehle Jaisi Speed Main Chal Pari jab phir main ne usse 1st Gear main dala wo usse tarah Slow Slow Chali. Kia Meri Gari Ki bhi Clutch Plates Farigh Ho Gai Hai.
