Never ever rely on Dealership (read stealership) guys and never leave your car unattended. I take all the stuff with myself that needs to be changed. Never do unnecessary maintenance from them like throttle cleaning at 10k or plugs changing at 20k (on a 2ZR-FE) lol

Go to a famous oil store, such as Makki oil store. I use Total Parco oil because they pack the oil for Toyota and Toyota rebrands it (Toyota doesn't own any oil refinery or such.) My GLI gave me 11 in city with heavy foot when I bought it used, and after oil change to Total 10w30, it gives me 13 with heavy foot. That is with in city without AC. I usually speed on empty roads...

No offence, but I found Makki Oil store PIA road’s air and oil filter fake. A high copy may be but not genuine.

I haven't had any problem with them. They do try to upsell you but not like the dealers. My air filter was changed (250 rs or something) 8000 km ago, i had it cleaned by compressed air twice and it is still 50% clean.

For oil, I'm a little bit skeptic about originality of the oils being sold at private vendors, therefore always get it changed from either official dealerships (or stealerships ) or flagship Total Parco fuel stations with service shops.
For oil and air filters (Toyota), interestingly I found some people importing them directly from Japan and selling at a price marginally less than dealership prices. So I found it more cost effective.
For Suzuki's I still rely on Guard's OEM genuine filters.

i have a very bad experience with one Total Pump's service center. i got oil changed for my car and i an 200% sure that i was cheated as it was fake oil. within 1500 km the oil was totally black and reduced too with no problems in my engine. i immediately drained it out. point here is that most petrol stations of Total/Shell/Caltex are franchised and NOT company owned. they sell mix of fake/repacked and original oils which only they can differentiate. jab ye log 1liter petrol me 1/2 liter ki dandi maartay hain tou kon original genuine oil sale karay ga

I had same experience with shell pump near raja sahib close to shoukat khanam. I think makki is a registered distributor of Total. I have NO bad experience with anything. I change at 4000 km, and the oil is still dark brown. Not black. I don't think you should spend that much on oem filters, your going to change the oil at 4 or 5000 anyway. There is also an official zic service center near my house, but never used that oil as I'm fine with total.

@makhan01 So how is your car performing after switching back to 5W-30 oil??? Any change/increase in tappet or engine noise? That's what happened to me when I switched from 20W-50 to 10W-40. However, my car was being driven on 20-50 since long (about 215K km) & I changed it to 10-40 without any particular reason. No smoke, oil reduction or loss of power at all, just increase in engine noise.

Hi @Hitlersaab. I drove the car for 3K KMs and then replaced the oil with 10w30. I initially thought of switching directly to 5w30 fully synthetic but then reverted to 10w30.

Driven the car almost 4K Kms on 10w30 and so far didn't notice anything. No oil reduction no noise. Fuel economy is little bit better than it was on 20w50. Else not a single notable difference so far.

Thanks for the update. I switched to 10-40 from 20-50 when the car ODO was about 215K. Now it is at 265K & it is still on 10-40. No oil reduction or smoke or any problem at all except increased tappet/engine noise.

Means your engine is in a great condition ma sha Allah. I guess the noise issue isn't related to the the low viscosity oil, however the experts here could provide a better opinion.

Yes Alhamdulillah the engine is in excellent condition. I really take care of it & change the oil at 3500k. Also, recently poured in Liqui Moly Ceratec Engine Protect a week ago during last oil change.

I got the compression test done last month & it was around 110 for all four cylinders, which is quite good I think. I got the car tested from multiple mechanics & all of them were of the same opinion that the noise was not related to some serious problem but just minor tappet noise.

The engine noise is actually greater at idle. When driving, it is just fine & is unnoticeable. Probably because of sound proofing or due to increased tyres' noise. The drive is as smooth as it ever was, years ago.

Great. I guess you shouldn't be worried about it then. Off course there are some differences after a considerable mileage as compared to a newer, tight and sealed engine. My PS Alto's engine was perfect in performance after 100K Kms but started to sound horrible as compared to when it was new (I guess combined noises of bearings, gear box etc). These ZR-FE engines are awesome and much better as compared to the others in my opinion.

I’m using havoline 20W50 in my 2004 model Toyota Premio 2.0. We bought it when the odo was 77k. Now it’s almost 200k and the engine is stills going strong. Giving me best fuel economy. So don’t believe what everyone tells you. Just change the engine oil timely and keep the air filter clean. There’s absolutely nothing to worry!

When they design engines they also determine what oils are suitable you just cannot pour everything or anything in it , might result in engine damage, so please check the engine specs as to what type of oils can this engine handle and if something was poured that the engine cannot handle drain it immediately.

Modern engines are engineered AROUND an oil of a specific API Service Rating and viscosity. Its high tolerance precision parts REQUIRE a specific lubricant. The owner no longer has a choice in this. If he does not understand or chooses to ignore this, he will damage the engine. And it is the expensive parts that will fail first!
