Mechanical Engineering Final Year Project Ideas/suggestions

Hello Everyone!

So my Final year is just started and I'm thinking of a nice project for Mechanical engineering. I was looking to build a quad-copter also known as multicopter (project scope: mostly aviation) but my cousin just made it so I'm trying to put it as my last option

My personal interest is that the project scope should be automobile related with something innovative or creative which can be added.

Another idea was "regenerative braking system " in a bicycle but it is way to easy for a final year project.

So help and suggest ideas for my FYP along with the project scope.

regen brake when done on a large scale is a pretty nice project, e.g. if you do it on a train or truck which is connected to a power grid

my good friend and also a member of pw's did a project for harley davidson in u.s
project was to make the clutch mechanism of the bike lighter specially for women bikers

in a HD its simple hydraulic clutch, you just have to work with volume vs pressure and redesign the reaction lever (longer) and you get the result. Usually tackled by Moto Guzzi bikers

As xulfiqar bhai said the mechanical advantage is increased by increasing the lever length

well I guess it is already being used in hybrid cars, isn't it? what about adding something new in this project as you've seen pretty much more then me so please suggest something 'cool' that can be used as an x-factor in the project

None of the mechanical engineering finals have tried an all-out alternative energy vehicle yet, the vehicles in the shell eco marathon and stuff were not... Hearty enough.
If you want to go down the automotive route, automotive engineering final year students at NED tried to get into the formula university series held in europe last year, even managed to produce a vehicle which met the competition requirements but couldnt get visas and logistics arrangements done. I say go all out, be ambitious, we need that as students here, i know we have the potential.

Got to the SAE site, society of automotive engineers. Its an international organisation, theres a few papers on there that are free to read, theres ABUNDANT sources of inspiration on there

Thank you so much for the article and the link but being honest the university doesn't even care about what we make and they told us before even listing the project options that there would be no sponsors whatsoever which is quite a let down!

However I'm trying to come up with something simpler & cost effective yet innovative and creative...! just need a hint of idea and I can develop out something of it. A guy of our own university made a prototype of an engine run on hydro-power obviously the efficiency wasn't good enough but he got full grades for the effort put in

well here are two ideas which might get your attention

1)gear shifting machine for manual cars an accesory for disabled .well the idea is simple instead of manually changing gears a machine which could be mounted on the gear leaver could change the gears for you with the help of a simple button.the user has to press the clutch and the gear shift button (up or down) and the machine changes the gear for the user.It will be simple but yet effective.imagine disabled driving v8 mustangs without getting them modified

2)hydraulic system for vw bugs.simple use of air ride shocks attached with a controller to switch the compressor on and off if you want to increase or decrease the ride height .a simple car compressor will push air in the shocks causing them to expend . cost of this project is 10-15000 thats it including the air ride shocks (80$) .i am already planning to do this on my car.i already got the shocks imported as well as the compressor(local) no micro controller though since i am no engineer to program it and fix it on my car.tag along on this project if u desire.

Amazing .. loved it! what I can do is buy a quad and then modify it this way! Personally the quad thing is pretty interesting for me
