But with unichip it might surprise a few turbo owners in summers when temp is above 40 degrees
Once a Grande gave me a really tough time when I was driving near emaar
He was neck to neck with my stock turbo till 172 km/hr after that my car gave him a gap of only 1 car plus
Had many drags with Grandes before and always smoked them with massive huge gaps so I was in shock
It was really hot around 42 degrees that day at 1pm so turbo 's performance isnt 100% in such conditions
Secondly i am 100% sure that Grande wasnt stock i have seen videos of Grandes with unichips and the acceleration improves significantly with unichip so i think that grande had unichip

Yes u r right, in hot summer turbo cars get heatsoaked very quickly n they reduced the power by ecu timing retards to keep engine safe. I have got this obd elm to read the data of ecu and after doing 2-3 runs temp of turbo civic goes up. Even on dyno my power was going down below stock power after 5-6 consecutives runs. Turbo cars need better cooling system like bigger/efficient intercooler, cold air intake and downpipe to retain better performance in summer. M sure u had race with unichip grande as altis grande are more succesful with unichip power as compare to R18 civic with unichip. That friends manual reborn with performance parts gave my friends civic turbo tough time till 140kph n after tht civic turbo took the lead.

I must say I doubt there can be anything done to the R18 to make it even come close to L15 Turbo. HP is pretty much an irrelevant number when comparing NA engine with Turbo engine. I wonder what's the peak torque and its rpm for chipped R18?

I think its a good decision to dispose it off if we get any good offer !
Even if we wait for the update / recall , the resale of affected turbos would be really bad its not like a depreciation of just few thousands or a lac or two
Ppl will face massive loss of more than 3 to 4 lacs in just 1 year
Those who dont care about resale ( like i was before ) even they will regret when their cars wont fetch above 26 in 2018.. already they are hardly getting offers of 29 to 2950 for almost brandnew 5 to 6k kms driven turbos

The other day i was going with 5 and a half people on board and the Turbo still had immediate response. Even my CL9 would need to build revs in such a situation and I would notice that it's laden with weight.

Can't imagine any NA engine south of a 3.0 which can match that. Make no mistake, I'm a huge fan of the R18 because it's the only 'real' VTEC I've ever experienced. And fact is, during everyday driving I hardly felt my Reborn was under powered compared to the other 2 monsters I had. So Oriel is no doubt good enough, especially cuz I know knocking can be a real pain because I've experienced it in my Turbo.

How is the drive compared to turbo? I felt it kinda boring because of cvt and no paddle shifters.

Both cars have CVT transmission but CVT of Turbo is better it has fake shifts so when you floor it hard it gives somewhat similar feel like in any conventional 4 or 5 speed automatic car .. CVT of Oriel is no doubt boring due to the rubber band effect and no fake shifts
About paddle shifters if I am not wrong I havent used them more than 10 times in 10 months .. so the absence of paddle shifts doesnt make it boring however a better cvt with fake shifts would have entirely changed the feel of oriels acceleration
But in normal routine city drive even when you have to drive fast and hit around 4k rpm you will not miss the fake shifts because in such conditions even the cars with fake shifts like grande and turbo have almost similar behaviour

Now they are giving DCT in Turbos Internationally from 2018 i guess , read somewhere now that would be too good

I have observed this too when I was going out of city with my family ( 4 adults ) and trunk full of stuff and a lot of weight still turbo had immediate response and normal engines just die in such situations !

Mods bhai. More mods. My PRL downpipe has arrived and methanol kit is on the way. I've already upgraded the intercooler and have an intake.

Once I install the downpipe and meth kit, I'll get a custom tune from vitviper on hondata.

I remember devil almost went for a CAI on his turbo before he decided to sell it lol

I wish i wud do all these mods but already spent a lot on A3, vitviper is really good tuner on ktuner and those prl downpipe is gonna unleash 10-15whp on ur 6+ psi map and they (prl) also goin to make intercooler soon. Btw which prl downpipe u going to get, i will suggest u catless downpipe as it make more power compare to catted dp.

Yup, like you mentioned I went for the catless downpipe. Gonna have it installed in a few days and get a custom tune after a week or so. Will see how it all goes.

Hardly 5-7nm torque will be increased but with supporting mods it can increase by 10nm. R18 is 175nm torque and L15b7 is 220nm quite big difference.
