Sealants are synthetic waxes and they cover the paint with a layer of cross linking polymers.
Once bonded bonded properly, they last incredibly long and give an excellent hydrophobic surface. Drying your car is a breeze because most of the water beads and rolls right off. You can also rest assured that your paint is protected from uv rays from the sun, waterspots, contamination bonding to the paint, etc...
To make it bond properly you must have a surface free of contamination. Clay bar your car.
Then remove any polishing oils.
(Ahmad bhai can guide you on this). There are several ways to do this like giving an apc wipe or you can go professional and apply carpro eraser or af tough prep.
And yes you can add another layer of natural wax for additional depth
