Mehran 1989 restoration project (automatic mehru)

Salam fellow pakwheelers, I recently got my hands on a 1989 Mehran which was laying idle with my uncle for quite sometime now…. Its condition was 6/10 at best ….. so I bought it from him very very cheap (like way cheap) and thought to restore it as a side/backup car for home use …. Now I got inspired from this video:

Now I am aiming to do what he did but even better than him. My brother @dani_kk who helped me immensly in restoration my Nissan Sunny B14 is now helping me in this project and most of the ideas came from him he is technical brain behind this project. He is the owner of amazing Dmotorsports in Pindi/Islamabad. Following are the stuff that I am currently doing or going to do for this project:

1.Complete body restoration, denting, painting etc to make it brand new. I bought new doors, bonnet, fenders and roof for the car.

2.Engine swap. I have Automatic K6Ain mind like the one in the video. He swapped K6a from Seventh Generation ALTA aka HA25 2009-2014 and has installed the meter of the same car. I also had R06A in mind but it is more advanced engine and successor to K6A and I might not be able to properly hook it up so I’ll go for K6A Automatic. Now K6A (non-turbo) came in from Fourth Gen ALTO to Seventh Gen ALTO (read Wikipedia on Suzuki ALTO) and is quite a good engine. Versus the F8B (Mehran’s own engine) which has 39.5 HP/29 kW output, K6A has 53 HP/40 kW output. Now there are three versions of K6A, normal K6A (my intended swap), lean burn K6A (46 HP/34 kW which I don’t want), and Turbo K6A (60 HP/44 kW which I don’t want due to hassles involving turbo). Now the lean burn K6A came in and was common in fifth generation alto (the alto having same shape as our 1000cc local ALTO), thus I am avoiding the K6A’s of fifth gen alto as I can’t differentiate between normal K6A and lean burn one. Moreover, the Automatic K6A comes in 2 variants, one with 3 gears and one with 4 (OD) gears. The OD version one has larger and heavier gear and the ustaad/mechanics here are advising me against it and I also don’t want it as I don’t intend to put extra weight in my car. The guy in the video swapped K6A from seventh gen ALTO which only comes in 4 (OD) gear version. After all the research, I have decided to swap K6A from Sixth Gen ALTO (2004-2009) which only comes with the 54HP/40 kW version in automatic with only 3 gears. One of my friend here has this ALTO, I drove it and I liked it. It’s engine is in abundance here in quetta with complete wiring and costs only Rs. 30k. Below is the picture of Sixth Gen ALTO’s engine which I’ll swap in my Mehran:

3.Power windows (I bought from zacars.pk), power steering (will bring car to Lahore for this) and power brakes. See the video of power windows in Mehran below:

4.Projector Headlights with LED lamps. I ordered projectors from Aliexpress along with LED headlights. My brother @dani_kk in Rawalpindi will modify the headlights for me (projectors: royalin angel eyes projectors) (led lamps: Novsight 18000LM 6500k H1 LED). Below is the video of the same projectors installed in a mehran:

5.Tail lights. I bought these tail lights for my Mehran:

7.Seats. Guys please recommend me the most comfortable seats that I can install in Mehran. I saw a thread where Mira’s seats are recommended for Mehran. But I need expert’s advise on the seats.

8.Brand new front and back shocks, kamanis, steering box, axles and every other thing beneath the car.

9.New dashboard. Please advise me for this.

10.Carpets, rubbers etc.

11.I have ordered following stuff from aliexpress and have received most of the items:

i. Passive keyless entry (PKE) push start system: Easy guard PKE Push Start

ii. Steering wheels remote control (which I’ll use with the intended single din android panel): Universal remote control Car steering wheel button

iii. 8 parking sensors with lcd: Parking Sensor Parktronic 8 Sensors

iv. Bluetooth Tire Pressure Monitoring System: TPMS Bluetooth

v. Trunk flexible LED: OKEEN Truck Flexible LED

vi. Headlight flexible DRL LED: Headlight DRL Flexible LED

vii. Fender side lamps: Fender side LED indicator

viii. Leather case for PKE remote: KUKAKEY Leather Car Key Case Fob Cover

ix. Many other small stuff like metal decals/emblems, Suzuki keychain rings emblems etc

12.Following are the items which I haven’t ordered yet due to financial constraints but will soon order:

i. Single din android panel with latest hardware (intel chip): Joying Single Din Intel 4GB

ii. Car 360 degree panaromic camera, birdeye view and DVR: weivision 1080p Sony 360 bird view panaromic

iii. Separate 7 inch LCD for 360 degree camera setup which will only display the camera. Will not use android panel as most of the times I would be using the navigation/gps: GreenYi 1280x960 7 inch

I will keep on updating this thread and post my progress. I request expert advise for my project as well as suggestions for any other thing to do. I request you guys to pray for the success of this project. I intend to keep this car afterwards for a long time since it’s a small car best for city use, has low cost and cheap spare parts, and can be parked in small spaces.

Just a few things;
- pls pls pls dont get 3spd AT... you will regret because of its pathetic fuel avg....At 60kph u would be at 3k rpm already which is baaad.......get 4AT or nothing.....
- those tails are eww.... pls stick to stock ones

Brother the mechanics are advising me against bigger transmission as it requires more modification and cutting. I am content with 3k 60kmph as long as the acceleration is faster due to lower weight...

I'll install the tail lights and then see how it looks... If it doesn't looks good I'll order modified tail lights having lava strips but those costs around 15k

I think mehru engine bay is bigger than 7th gen alto

What mod and cutting is ur mechanic talking about?

I m just concerned cause if in same fitting costs a 4AT can be fitted then why not put it then....i hope the mechanic is not avoiding more work...

I cudnt find but any idea of the weights of both engines with trans...??

Ok bro I'll Insha-Allah see the feasibility of 4AT K6A... And the sixth gen did came with 4AT version as well... It'll be easy to find i hope so

4AT transmission is a bit heavier having the 4th/OD gear... Don't know exactly how much but the general concensus is that its heavier

in my opinion, the list of doing things is too long and most of the things are extra....i will suggest not to do it.

as for body, bumpers, spoilers and lips, if u are in lahore, in bilal gunj find the Japanese version parts which includes bonnet with hood scoop, back diggi with defogger screen, back viper and spoiler. Japanese dashboard, side skirts and bumpers with fog lights. this will reduce half your problem of modification pics attached for reference.

as for seats, mira seats fits well while u can go to seats market and ask the guys, they will suggest better ideas and it is recommended to do the seats while u r getting u car body work done.

if u can also find a japanese version from scrap, the japanese versions came with coil spring instead of leaf spring and these are hell comfortable. even indian maruti have stopped coil springs long ago.

Lava lights are far better than the pathetic back lights u have posted above.
get all four doors dome light switches holes
u can modify the fuel lid opener from inside an easy job. find my thread where i have posted details.

And remember while u r swapping engine, keep in mind to do alteration where lesser modifications are done, and the parts are easily available and scarce. Please make sure about the ac and power steering components that they should sit and fit well.

Pathetic back and front bro.
This grill doesn't looks good so does the bumper. It should be simple from edges. Fog lamps are great. Rest everything is good.

Brother those looks like an extra show off/ricer type stuff ... i want to keep it close to stock .... modified but minimalistic and elegant ..... the dash looks good and where can i get it from? I'll do the dome light switch mod as well as fuel lid opener as advised ... you have done a pretty good job with your mehru brother

@qazishehryar did u own the black sunny that danyal has? He mentioned to me that the previous owner was from quetta. Well wish u all the best for the project and if i m still here in quetta till ur project completes, would surely request a test drive if possible for u

Yes bro i had the black nissan sunny b14 and i restored it with the help of danyal bhai @dani_kk then later on sold it to him... Sure bro Insha-Allah I'll invite u for a test drive and i am aiming to make it one of a kind mehru of pakistan... I'll get proper sound deadening done from danyal bhai once i get the car up and running...

i had a small ride in that B14 with him so he told me about u as i m also here in quetta and go to pindi on leaves. Danyal is a very good guy with sound knowledge of almost evrything. I hope it turns out exactly as u want it to be but dnt get it riced up as in few pictures above its looking way over done

Received these decals today.... exceptional quality made of metal... the weight tells its quality am quite impressed.... i have ordered VXR and separate VXL .... since my mehran would be full automatic, power steering, power brakes, power windows, & power mirrors so i thought why not put VXL instead of VXR.... recent suzuki cars i.e. ALTO VXL and Cultus VXL are fully loaded trims .... I'll put Suzuki on the left side of the trunk, beneath it 0.6 and an automatic decal which i haven't received yet (this one automatic decal).... on the right side i'll put Mehran and beneath it either VXR or the VXL ....
