Members from Canada : Do you tip when you eat out?

So guys, when food is already so extremely expensive, do you still give a tip on top of that ?

In China I very very rarely tipped as my Chinese colleagues advised me that its not required. In Pakistan I tip if service charges are not included. If the service is poor then I still tip but a very minimal amount. The wait staff is usually not paid well and tips are the main source of their income. Especially the waiters who stand on the streets and bring u food and drinks from shops. So a small tip does no one any harm.

Not sure about the practices in Canada though:)

I asked about Canada specifically for a reason. Food prices in canada are probably the highest in the world. A meal that costs $5 in USA, costs $20 in Canada.

paying tip varies from location to location.

In PK, either the food is expensive or not, i never miss a tip unless service charges are not included in the bill.
in China, they don't like to receive tip. yes its true. they don't like it.
In UK, there is a box on the reception counter where you can drop your tip. At the end of the day, it is divided to all the individuals.
in SL, same like PK.
in USA, paying tip considered as good gesture no matter how small or how big you pay.
in South Korea, Normally they include within the bill.

Either the food is expensive or super expensive, pay tip is not related to food price. Its just a gesture you are paying to the people who serve your food.

I SPECIFICALLY asked about Canada. The reason being that food prices are already several times what they are anywhere else in the world. Do PW members from Canada actually pay a tip on top of that as well ?

Yes, if there is a server assigned to you that handles everything from beginning to end, although i top more like 10 % rather than 15%.
